Cool title, cool cover! Looking forward to finding out if the title is hidden in the lyrics of one of these songs...

If I had to guess, I would pick "Punish the Monkey."

Maybe it has something to do with testing cosmetics on animals (lipstick or eye shadow?).

OK. So maybe I'm way off. :o

Any other guesses?

It's just great to get a new solo album from Knopfler.

Wow, I had entirely different interpretation of "Punish the Monkey."

What amazes me is he is staying so prolific and cranking out a new disc each year or so. Very unlike him with Dire and his early solo stuff. He seemed to put something out whenever he wasn't working a duet project or movie score or when the mood hit him.

He really seems to be on a nice run and I for one, and many I know, really appreciate it. Sailing and Shang-Ri were both great records. FIve stars for both. Rag was only ok for me but still better than most of the drival out there today.

I am hoping that there will be a multichannel release of this.Either an SACD or deluxe CD/DVD-A would be nice.I really love the multichannel versions of "Shangri-La" and "Sailing To Philadelphia".

Updated information about the availability of different versions of this album ...

The standard (CD only) edition is still scheduled for release this Tuesday. At Amazon's listing page you can now see streaming video of Knopfler discussing the making of the album:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000TUXL2A/?tag=imwan-20

The special edition (CD + DVD) has been cancelled in the USA. Allegedly this will be replaced at some later date with an MVI version that includes all the audio and video on one disc ~ this hasn't been scheduled yet ~ but in the meantime the original special edition configuration will be released as an import ~ the bonus DVD is NTSC/Region 0 so it will play just fine on American systems. Here's Amazon's listing ...

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000S9UA94/?tag=imwan-20

The DVD contains the EPK (electronic press kit) for the album, with two sections ~ Knopfler discussing the making of the album, and interviews with his band members. You can order it through the Amazon link above (that's probably a UK export edition), but I would strongly recommend you instead grab the Canadian import from CD Universe as soon as possible since it's currently only $15.89 (which is about $20 cheaper than the Amazon import):

I picked up my copy of this disc yesterday, and I've been listening whenever I'm in the car this weekend. So far I'm not blown away, though I don't hate it. I heard the single, Punish The Monkey, last month and loved it; so I've been excited to hear the rest. There are a couple of very nice songs, but much of it is slow and unremarkeable to my taste--sort of like the record after Sailing To Philadelphia (I can't even remember what that one's called). I haven't listened to the whole cd yet, so this critique may be premature. But so far, I would grade it at B-.
