It's playing on HBO even as I type these words. I figured, "Hey, let's give it another shot. It's a holiday weekend. I don't have to work on Monday. Let's give the thing another chance. Yes, I remember the stomach pains that occurred when I saw this piece of shit in the theater, but maybe it'll work for me now that some time has passed."
I only barely made it past the opening credits.
And my fucking stomach hurts again.
Bryan Singer? If you're reading this post, stay out of my line of sight for a while.

It made me angry. Superman's not that difficult a character to write correctly. You have to really try to screw it up. Everything, from his kid killing a man to the dark costume to the shoddy premise (Superman doesn't abandon!) to the stupid climax (Superman can't lift a Kryptonite island into orbit!) ... it was all bad.
Not to mention that ALL the best lines are swiped, word for word, from Superman the Movie.

And here's why the above post is wrong The costume was fine. Superman didn't abandon anyone. If you're talking about going into space, he didn't know it was going to take that long. If you're talking about the kid, he didn't know about the kid, and once he did, he wasn't going to mess with Lois' relationship with Richard, a much more realistic relationship than one with Superman, since he has too many obligations. Everyone acts like he lifted the island full of Kryptonite and everything was fine. That's not what happened. He lifted it, grew weaker as he was doing it (and as the island began crumbling and exposing more Kryptonite), and he fell to the Earth and nearly died.

I liked it too. A flawed gem.

Here's why Matt is wrong:
Frank and Steve are right.
And no one's brought up Super-Stalker yet.
I have never walked out of a movie as angry at a movie as I did when I left the theatre after watching SUPERMAN RETURNS.

Matt, Hugh, and Gohnny:
You are all high. This movie is horrendously bad.

Sorry, Frisko, but I'll have to agree with Gohnny on this one.
Like almost all super-hero movies, the stuff they got right, they got very very right, and the stuff they got wrong they got very very wrong. There never seems to be much middle ground with these movies.

I tend to be very forgiving about adaptations. As long as I have some fun or there are some good thrills or something, I'm in. I'm sort of a "broad strokes" kind of guy when it comes to fidelity to the source material.
And with that said, Superman Returns was pure garbage. GARBAGE. It was one excellent plane-rescue scene and a bunch of whatthehellweretheythinking? It wasn't even a could-have-been like the highly-flawed-but-watchable Daredevil (so close, and all the more disapointing for it), it was just rotten garbage.
Just terrible. All that money ... wasted.

I'll even go as far to say that liked it a lot better than Spidey 3 (ducks brickbats).

I liked FF:RoSS more than Superman Returns, Spidey-3, and X-men III.

Nor Ghost Rider or the Punisher.
