I thought it was okay. The art by Coipel is sweet. It is weird hearing Thor talk about genetic code though.

I hope this new fat Thor* rips Tony Stark apart. We will then discover he was never actually Stark.

*at least he looks huge in a non-heroic way to me.

They can always claim it is that Extremis stuff with Tony

However, given he is more popular than ever, and people are more interested in him than they've been in two decades, I doubt they will.

Did they just call Bill Foster "Goliath"? I thought he was Giant-Man.

He was called "Black Goliath."

And I'm very much looking forward to Iron Man getting the tar beat out of him yet again...

What appeals to me even more than the prospect of a Thor/Iron Man fight from the pages in this preview is this:

Did anyone catch the omniscient narrator captions? I haven't seen that in a mainstream Marvel comic book in a significantly long time.

Now if we could just get thought balloons back...

I know that he started out as Black Goliath, then changed his name to Giant-Man (at the Thing's suggesting in the Project Pegasus MTIO arc). I never knew he had shortened his name to just "Goliath."

Although, wait -- I remember that during Priest's BLACK PANTHER, Foster went back to his original name and original "bare midriff" costume. (Right?)

The name "Goliath" never made sense to me. The Biblical Goliath was a bad guy. Let's have a new superhero and call him "Herod" or call her "Delilah." It would make the same amount of sense, methinks.

One of the things that has already stood out in this series is the rather unique situation between Thor and Dr. Donald Blake. They are both the same being and not. So for this new Thor to have a working understanding of genes and dna seems to fit somehow. Seldom did we ever see Thor actually using the medical knowledge that we were always told Donald Blake had as a doctor in the past.

The other thing that concerns me about this preview is the material concerning Hurricane Katrina. I've always viewed the Marvel Universe as being just like our own, just with superheroes, supervillains and monsters in it. Yet in the MU, the superheroes did nothing to prevent the devastation of New Orleans... presumably due to the Civil War. Seems like a reasonable idea if we take into account the flexibility of "Marvel time."

The New Orleans angle leads us down the slippery slope of having Dr. Doom standing on top of the SuperDome crying. I hated the 9/11 comic book from Marvel. The latest issue of Fantastic Five has Doom ready to destroy all of Manhattan, not crying over the loss of 3,000 innocents and two buildings. Doom crying over 9/11 would be like having Osama cry because of the Civil War incident at Stamford. Stupid.

I would like to see Thor join the Hulk and kick all their butts.

I think Mighty Avengers now features thought balloons.

I might have to check that out.

In the meantime, I was also not a huge fan of Doctor Doom lamenting 9-11 either... I think Marvel and DC were doing good by having a charity book afterwards. But there were brief moments when I felt things might have been taken too far or had crossed the boundaries of good taste. PAD had as the catalyst for his "Tempest Fugit" story the 9-11 attacks. I found that to be rather clunky and forced.
