From the recent Spamalot newsletter I received today, on February 6th Another Monty Python Album, Monty Python’s Previous Record, Monty Python’s Life Of Brian, and Monty Python’s The Meaning Of Life will be released here in the U.S. with bonus tracks. These have already been out awhile now in the UK. I think there are more expanded titles available in the UK (Holy Grail comes to mind) -- hopefully those will follow here as well.

Anyone with more word?

Bumping this with Python remaster news, and also moving this to the Vaults ...

Three of the remasters are coming out in less expensive domestic pressings tomorrow, April 10th ~ Matching Tie And Handkerchief, Holy Grail Soundtrack and Contractual Obligation Album:

Python audio remasters at Amazon

Now, there are several additional Monty Python remasters which are out in Europe with no USA release currently on schedule. The easiest list to wade through is at the CDU link above, but once you've found what you want of the imports you might be able to obtain them cheaper from Amazon UK.

Please be careful when purchasing these, get them NEW not from third party dealers at the sites. These discs have been reissued several times and you can't be certain you're getting the proper remasters unless you buy NEW. (If you care about remastering, that is. :)) If you want to play it safe, just stick with the domestic pressings and hope for more as Dave's original post mentioned.

Agreed. I have one of the earlier import reissues of Matching Tie and Hankerchief and it has muddy sound, no bonuses and so-so packaging. I would imagine the remaster almost has to be better.

Thanks for the info on this, Linda. The remaining remasters crossed my mind just the other day. I'll have to swing by Best Buy tomorrow. As far as what else there is in Europe, I think there's basically only the two live albums (Drury Lane and City Center), the first album (the BBC TV show stuff), and then a few odd tracks that might be out there on some of the compilations (such as the new connecting links on the Final Rip Off).

I thought I read something somewhere of Palin and Jones considering getting the members together to do a new album. I hope they do. It's the least they could do.

I picked up promos of these 3 last week. They were originally issued in the US on Arista; due to the Sony/BMG merger the reissues are on Legacy. Arista also issued Live! At City Center on LP. Maybe there's no bonus material for that one in the vaults?

Of course, I'm still keeping my Python CD box set, even though I've got all the reissues so far.

I have this box set too, come to think of it. (As well as the Arista remasters from a few years ago). Any reason you're holding on to the box? Anything I should know before I might consider selling it on ebay only to regret it later?.

Our Python audio collections aren't complete without this album, which is being issued on CD for the first time:

2007 issue 18-track CD album [originally released as an album in 1967] - 'At Last the 1948 Show' marks an important stage in the development of modern British comedy and whilst it is of cultural importance in its own right the line that connects it to Monty Python's Flying Circus is not indirect, making it one of the rarest Python-related collectables. This TV series featured future Pythons John Cleese and Graham Chapman, as well as Marty Feldman and future Goodie Tim Brooke-Taylor.

1. Bookshop
2. Sheep Dog Trials
3. Brief Interrogation
4. The Wonderful World Of The Ant

Thanks, Linda. You posted this for me, didn't you. I recall seeing there was an album of this released way back when. I wonder if the artwork is true to the original release. I hope so. Either way, I'll be getting this.

Now if only I could find a copy of A Poke In The Eye With A Sharp Stick, the deluxe version that was released on the Castle label too long ago to find anywhere nowadays.

Of course. And for me too!

It is. At least the front cover is the same, what's pictured above. Dunno what the rest of the inserts look like yet.

And there's at least one more extant piece of Pythonana (?) that hasn't been issued on CD, the soundtrack of the I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again radio show ...

I've got this LP, but have never found it on CD, was there a reissue that I missed?

I forgot about this one. I do have it on vinyl -- haven't heard it in years though. Most people don't have turntables. Me, it's the rest of the stereo system I don't have. Anyway, if I recall, this might actually have the first recording of the Rutles.

Yes, there was a Japan-only CD issue with two bonus tracks around 1995. Long out of print.

How many pre-Pythons were involved on that one? Was it just Cleese? Or was Chapman involved as well?

Here's a 1948 Show sketch which shows the Python style already in bloom:

It was Cleese, the three Goodies, Jo Kendall and David Hatch. I think Chapman was already writing sketches for the show with Cleese, though.

That 'Rutland...' LP was a favorite of mine back in the day; it's one of my Holy Grails that I've never been able to locate...
