From Backstreets: NEW ALBUM: MAGIC Springsteen back with E Street Band for Oct. 2 release It's official. Springsteen's first album with the E Street Band since 2002's The Rising drops in less than seven weeks, and it's called Magic. In case that title makes you, like us, think of Doug Henning... check the Mark Seliger photo at right for a first peek at Bruce's 2007 look. No rainbows or unicorns to be found. (And that guitar... that's magic.) According to manager Jon Landau, quoted in today's press release from Shore Fire Media, this one's a rocker: "Magic is a high energy rock CD. It's light on its feet, incredibly well played by Bruce and the members of the E Street Band, and, as always, has plenty to say. It's also immensely entertaining. Magic is the third collaboration between Bruce and Brendan O'Brien and is a culmination of their very productive creative relationship." O'Brien produced and mixed the album at his home base in Atlanta, Southern Tracks Recording Studio. Ready for 11 new Springsteen song titles? 1. Radio Nowhere 2. You'll Be Comin' Down 3. Livin' in the Future 4. Your Own Worst Enemy 5. Gypsy Biker 6. Girls in Their Summer Clothes 7. I'll Work for Your Love 8. Magic 9. Last to Die 10. Long Walk Home 11. Devil's Arcade Of these, only "Long Walk Home" has been heard before; Springsteen debuted the song with the Sessions Band and played it live exactly once, in London on November 11, 2006 (reportedly the day after he wrote it). Today's press release makes no mention of a tour, but we do expect a full-scale E Street Band tour to coincide with the album's release. Watch this space in the coming weeks -- and/or sign up for our mailing list below -- for details as soon as a tour is announced. __________________________________ http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000V8I2QU/?tag=imwan-20

I have seen the future of rock and roll, and it's name is...yet another barrage from the CBS/Sony/Landau overhype machine for a new album by St. Springsteen!

Seems to me the most productive creative relationship Springsteen ever had was with Mike Appel)

Well obviously you're entitled to your opinion and no one would deny you that, however, what excites me is that this sounds like it may be a more upbeat and rocking Springsteen album. I enjoyed the Seeger Sessions stuff and I went to all of the local "Devils & Dust" and "Tom Joad" shows, but Bruce and company are no better than when they're rocking.
They can hype this all they want and I know that some people will be put off by that, but at least it sounds like there's a little more substance to this hype than with many other things. I'd rather see this hype than more hype about "High School Musical 2!!!"

By all the advertising, I wonder if the CD will be credited to Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band. That would be different. I'm looking forward to this...and the tour that will follow. My guess is that it will be last E Street Band tour we'll see.

I gotta admit, that "Sweatin' To The Oldies" line had me rollin'.
Brendan O'Brien is actually a pretty decent rock producer...his Rage Against The Machine work alone is killer.

I suppose I am back to once again express my regrets for something I submitted earlier to this thread. What I typed was textbook threadcrapping, and I should have started another thread to say what I had to say...of course, if I would have needed to go to the trouble to start another thread, I probably wouldn't have typed anything at all, which is generally (for me) the wisest course of action. I have got to stop doing this.

Ah-Ha! My Mistah Bwooce Splingsteen (I presume) is ready to roll again with the E-Street Band. I am delighted to hear of this news today. I just hope I don't cry too hard when I see the prices for the tickets for the shows. My pre-order season for CDs has been brutal enough.
There has been a rumor going around that this might be the last full E-Street Band Tour. We'll have to see what pans out in various interviews in the near-future.
I have to comment on the first photo from the Magic photo sessions (at least that's what I'm assuming what it's from at this early stage in the game). It looks like a photo of Bruce from the Darkness On The Edge Of Town Era 30 Years On. '08 will be the 30th Anniversary of that whole album and tour experience. I am betting that it is going to be weighing heavily in the air for this upcoming tour.
As absolutely incredible as the Devils and Dust show that I experienced was, there is nothing quite like getting my head pummeled by the ferocious guitar sound of Bruce, Steven, Nils & occasionally Patti simultaneously creating the sound of free expression at the best it can be.

I agree with Mark. I have no issues with opinions, as long as people can offer them AND disagree with them in a respectful manner. I did not see anything disrespectful with either the original opinion or any of the responses.

Well, the first one was pretty disrespectful to Springsteen -- but he doesn't post here very often.

Great news! Wasn't a big fan of the sessions album concept, and did not actually buy the album. I have loved every other recent Bruce album and will buy this one the day it is released.

I am with you Renny, Yeah to it's death. I was and still am very fond of the seperate dvd format being added in the disc package. That way nothing gets scratched up. Big time yeah for the funeral. (No one went)
And I also don't get why the ESB is not credited on the cover. It seems like a major slight for them and us. Especially if they all or mostly played on it as a true band.
As much as I did like the last three, I am soooo ready for him/them to rock it out. Might have to suck up the big bucks and take my daughter so she can see one of the few "real" concerts before they all dry up.
And if they do tout it as a FINAL ESB tour, then that gives them license to kill... errr I mean maime, rape and pilage our bank accounts without remorse. Might be talking Police type money here and that will suck and hurt because I'll have to do it.

If it stays the way it is, that's one ugly ass cover! It's certainly not flattering to Bruce at all.

I don't know - I like the cover...it at least conveys the aging experience of the working class - perfect for his mythology. He's not running away from who he is. I just hope the album itself has as much grit as the cover.
