I was reading the liner notes to Stevie Nicks' Time Spaces CD and discovered that she wrote the song Edge of Seventeen as a tribute to her uncle and to John Lennon.

Elton John had Empty Garden as his Lennon tribute.

Billy Squier had Nobody Knows off of his Don't Say No album.

I'm sure there were other songs.

Here Today by Paul McCartney from his Tug of War album. (Paul has started performing this in concert and it is absolutely heart-wrenching. Not a dry eye in the house.)

Curious: did anyone do a tribute song for George?

Never Without You by Ringo Starr on his album, Ringo-Rama is a tribute to George. It features a guitar solo by Eric Clapton. The album also has a tribute to Harry Nilsson titled Missouri Loves Company.

During the set where he sings Here Today in concert, Paul also pulls out a ukelele and sings Something. Much weeping ensues.

I think Never Without You is the best song Ringo's done since...I want to say Photograph (which of course, Ringo sang quite movingly at the Concert For George). Definitely in the top 5 he's ever done.

Love Phillip Glass! Especially the minimalist stuff!

I searched for a related thread and this is the closest I found. Today, twenty-seven years ago, was the day John Lennon was assassinated. It was my generations version of the day John F. Kennedy was assassinated.

I recall everyone walking around in a malaise while rock 'n' roll radio stations played nothing but The Beatles and John Lennon's solo material for a couple days straight. No station wanted to be the first to end the musical tribute. A voice and spirit of a generation was silenced.

I was ten years old, sitting in the food court of the Louis Joliet Mall, on a Christmas shopping spree with my mother and sister, when I first heard that Lennon had been killed.

"Got to Get You Into My Life" had become a hit again thanks to a re-release a few years earlier, so I knew who Lennon was. My mom was pretty broken up about his death. I remember watching her tear up a little over her plate of mall fast food.

Hey, Fraxon and Twitchy -- why was "Got to Get You Into My Life" re-released, anyway? I remember that song getting some serious airplay in the late 70's. Was it part of a movie soundtrack or something?

Just for the record, Yoko's "Walking on Thin Ice" was recorded before John's death, and was a non-lp single.

There were more John Lennon tributes this year than Pearl Harbor tributes in the media.
