The mans' name is Bond, James Bond, and I don't care how much of a beating Rocky can take, James will kill him.

Wow. an odd set up, two characters who exist in two completely different worlds. Kudos for avoiding the more obvious Rocky v. Rambo.

James Bond would obviously kill Rocky.

But to me, that's not the only measure of a tough guy. A tough guy doesn't stop fighting no matter if he's being beat, no matter what the odds, and even if he loses. Rocky may not be as powerful as Bond, but he's like the Thing is-he never quits. and that's why I'd vote for the Thing as one of the top comic tough guys even though there are many that could mop the floor with him, and that's why I vote Rocky.

You won't be the only one. Part of being a tough guy, (besides the swagger, which Bond has in spades) is being set up as an underdog and overcoming those overwhelming odds. Rock is the best at this, I never thought Bond could lose. Thats why Rock gets my vote.

Bond should have lost to Bruce Lee, but he would destroy Rocky.

But if JB gets his hands on his laser watch, or the ballpoint pistol in his jacket pocket, ot that urine specimen on the lab table over there, Rocky's had it.

I don't know about that. In a boxing ring, sure, it'd be Rocky. But an actual fight? No gloves, no rules? Martial arts expertise probably trumps boxing expertise.

Rocky is a fighter.

As long as it's a sanctioned boxing match, Rocky wins. I'm going to assume we're talking about a boxing match.

Rocky beat Hulk Hogan in a no-holds-barred match. Rocky beat Tommy Gun so badly in a no-holds-barred match that Tommy-G got AIDS. Rocky would beat Bond in any sort of fight (yes, even a gun fight, though you might have to explain to Rocky how the gun works, depending on what 'era' of Rocky we're chosing from).

Rocky single-handedly won the Cold War. Did Bond do that? No, I don't think so.

The question isn't who's more deadly, it's who's tougher. They don't come a hell of a lot tougher then Rocky.

Exactly. Toughness is not who can kill the other, necessarily. It's an attitude, a personality, an inner strength of will, and determination, fighting against overwhelming odds, the ability to succeed in the situation one is thrust into, that kind of thing.


I personally am not voting simply on who could beat who in a fight to the death, since (1) I don't believe the polls are meant to be that and (2) you can't compare the different universes so well.

I mean, Superman could beat anyone, just about. I wouldn't necessarily call him the ultimate tough guy though,

That's what I'm talking about, Rob. Being a tough guy is different from being deadly.

Take Jack Burton, from Big Trouble in Little China. I doubt he would beat any of the guys from the first round, but he's a perfect example of a tough guy.

You guys keep bringing up the point that Rocky doesn't give up when the chips are down, but when has Bond ever given in? He's outlasted torture on numerous occasions; in Die Another Day he lasted through fourteen months of Korean torture and never cracked! Even as recent as Casino Royale, he took severe injury, near mutilation in fact, to the most sensitive part of a man's body...and laughed in the face of his captor! He's beaten Jaws, Red Grant, Oddjob, Baron Samedi, Xenia Onatopp...and that's just a few of the times he's faced hopeless odds from greater opponents and triumphed.
Yeah, he's a killer, but he's also tough. Tougher in this case. Why do I say that? Let's look at circumstances. When Rocky has to fight, what is he fighting for? A title? Face? Respect? James Bond, however, is fighting for his life, the life of his current love interest, and, often, the lives of millions, nay, billions of others. He knows that he is facing insurmountable odds and rushes in head-first anyway.
To me, James Bond is the clear winner in this challenge. Bond doesn't look like a "tough guy", but I guaran-damn-tee that he can take anything Rocky can take, and more, and still come out on top.

Bond has the advantage of a whole nation behind him, the greatest gadgets minds can come up with, and never to me has seemed like an underdog. Never have i thought "I wonder how he'll get out of this." He's a superhero in a relatively normal world.

James Bond is tough, but we've never seen him endure a 45 minute beating like Rocky has. I do love 007. How dare Mahooney put two of my top five favorite characters against each other like this!
