Went to the "Hippiefest" concert at Bethel Woods (the site of the original Woodstock concert) last night. On the bill were: Denny Laine (Wings and the Moody Blues); Joey Molland (of Badfinger); Country Joe McDonald; Felix Caviliere (Rascals); The Zombies; The Turtles and Mountain. We decide to beat the traffic out of the festival, so we missed Mountain completely and listened to the Turtles as we made the LONG walk back to the car.

Each band played 3-5 songs and each was enjoyable in its own right. Denny Laine performed "Live and Let Die" (a good performance, but I couldn't get into hearing the song sans Paul McCartney) and "Go Now" (which sounded incredible) and a third song that I didn't recognize.

Joey Molland was really good also. He kicked off his set with my favorite Badfinger tune, "Baby Blue." (of course, "Day After Day," "Come and Get It" and "No Matter What" were also performed.) A very enjoyable set.

The Zombies included Rod Argent, Colin Blunstone and Jim Rodford, so we were treated to the Zombie's best known songs AND the Argent hit, "Hold Your Head Up." At some point or another, almost all of the singers sounded like they were straining a bit (with the exception of Blunstone and Argent, whose voices sounded as strong as ever.)

The Turtles were also in great voice and were actually the most fun of all the performers (owing to some hilarious stage banter.) They put on a great show, but the Zombies were still the highlight of the evening for me.

We paid $25 for lawn seats and all of us left the venue, feeling like we had gotten MUCH more than our money's worth. If you have a chance to see the Hippiefest, I recommend it highly.

Jon, was it the original line-up of The Turtles or Flo and Eddie?

I can't say for sure, but most bands made a big deal about announcing anyone who had been an original bandmember. I don't recall Flo and Eddie introducing anyone as such. (Also, their web site makes no mention of any of the original members joining them for any shows, so I'm gonna say with reasonable certainty that it was just Flo and Eddie and their current Turtles line-up. Sorry I can't give a 100% definitive answer, but I think it's a reasonable assumption (and probably the answer you were expecting anyway.)

Didn't Al Nichols do some time for drugs recently?
