Just popping in before I wander off to my Sunday Matinée performance (I just love community theater, all the work and none of the pay of professional theater - last night we played to a house full of vampires*).

So nice to see all you fun folks here!

*the Vampire Audience - they suck all the energy out of the actors and don't give anything back except polite applause and timid laughter so you know they aren't totally asleep.

I have been a Vampire Audience member before at a Depeche Mode concert I won front row tickets for. I wasn't as fluent with their music as I should've been (and my date was less so.) We stood there for most of the concert only moderately getting into the songs we weren't familiar with.

Hopefully your audience tonight will be better.

Oh that has got to be thread title of the week.

The show is The Thurber Carnival. Based on the works of Jim Thurber.

I'd post a link to the theater but they still don't have our show listed as Now Playing even though we've been running for three weeks of a five week run.

I'd post a link to the reviews except I'm not mentioned in the text of any of them even though the pictures they ran with the reviews are of me in one of the various characters I play. Go fig.

Actor's first rule - when you have an entrance, make it a good one!

I hear that for good luck before a theater performance, one of the cast members should stand on on their head & sing The Star Spangled Banner.

Really. I saw that on an episode of "Fame" years ago.

Sounds like the sort of thing you tell newbies doing their first show. Like taking someone for sushi for the first time and telling them that the green stuff is really mint, so load up on it.

You didn't really do that to someone, did you?!?! I'm a fan of all things spicy, but wasabe is in a class by itself!!!

Well, here is an online review for my show where my name actually makes it into print as well as one of my photos. (I'm supposed to be Robert E. Lee at Appomatox Courthouse in this scene.)

Unfortunately, the scene she condemns so roundly is one of mine, I'm one of the unconvincing drunks the reviewer loathed. Luckily we don't tank the show until after I've been in four other scenes and we're just about done with the first act.

But she also cites me postively for a different scene (my best one, frankly) which, thankfully, opens the second act. This scene is so well written and funny that all I do is get out of the way of the lines, just say them with good diction so the audience can hear them and pause for laughter so they hear the next one.

Actually, I feel a tad vindicated just in the fact that everything in the final paragraph is mine in the show.
