Of the many gigs I've been to these stand out because I saw what were originators of genres, making these occasions extra special to me:

James Brown (funk)
Kraftwerk (electro-pop)
Roky Erickson (psych)
Santana (latin rock)
Roger McGuinn, Chris Hillman, David Crosby (folk and country rock)
Scotty Moore and DJ Fontana (rockabilly)
Ray Charles (soul)
Dick Dale (surf)
The Skatalites (ska)
Toots and the Maytals (reggae)
Dizzy Gillespie (bebop)
Miles Davis (cool jazz and fusion)
Sugarhill Gang (rap)

Of your list, I've had the pleasure of seeing Ray Charles and Santana.

Consider yourself lucky, Steve. I'm trying to think if I've also seen the originators of hard rock. I've seen Ray Davies, who created sort of the prototype of hard rock, and Deep Purple, who were full-blown hard rock, but I think Blue Cheer might get the credit as the first hard rock band, and I haven't seen Blue Cheer.

I saw John Lydon and (The Clash's, not Foreigner's) Mick Jones on the same night. Does that count for anything?

The Damned are credited for the first UK punk single, "New Rose", but I'll bet it was an important occasion for you, wish I'd been there.

Allman Brothers: Pioneers of Southern Rock. Also, helped popularize slide guitar blues and jamming in the rock era.

Ramones: Punk

Dead Boys: Punk

McGuinn, Clark, and Hillman: Back when they were members of the Byrds, they were second only to Bob Dylan in pioneering Folk-Rock.

In that case I'll add Allman Brothers and Dee Dee Ramone to my list, though it could be argued that punk dates all the way back to The Monks in 1966.
