Foo Fighters announce comeback single
26.Jul.07 10:45am
Foo Fighters have announced that they will make their comeback with new single 'The Pretender'.
The track will be the first to be taken from forthcoming album 'Echoes, Silence, Patience And Grace', which is due out in September.
'The Pretender' will be made available as a download from August 13, although its physical release is yet to be confirmed.
As previously reported the band's sixth studio release was produced by Gil Norton, the first time he has worked with the band since 1997's 'The Colour And The Shape' - which itself is being re-released in a tenth anniversary edition (see thread here).
'Echoes, Silence, Patience And Grace' will feature the following songs, although the running order has yet to be confirmed:
'The Pretender'
'Let It Die'
'Erase/Replace'
'Long Road To Ruin'
'Come Alive'
'Stranger Things Have Happened'
'Cheer Up, Boys (Your Make-Up Is Running)'
'Summers End'
'Ballad Of The Beaconsfield Miners'
'Statues'
'But, Honestly'
'Home'
As previously reported, the band played Wembley Stadium earlier this month (July 7) for Live Earth, and they will return the UK next month to play the V Festival (August 18-19).

Here's the album ...
Amazon.com
In 1997, Foo Fighters teamed with alt-rock production cornerstone Gil Norton to make their best album, The Colour and the Shape. Ten years later, they've regrouped with Norton for a disc that's more sophisticated and diverse, if a tad less rockin'. The curveballs include "Stranger Things Have Happened," a solo soul-searcher where leader Dave Grohl's accompanied by just his acoustic guitar and a ticking metronome, and "Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners," an acoustic guitar duet for Grohl and guest virtuoso Kaki King. Plus "Summer's End" tickles the Foos' classic-rock fetish with a dead-on Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young arrangement. There's still enough of the intense, snarling power-pop that's Foo Fighters' longtime forte. "The Pretender," "Erase/Replace," and "Long Road to Ruin" combine sheer thrust, zeal, and melody like no other group currently on the charts. Yet the finale, "Home," makes its clear that this is a changed band--or, at least, that Grohl's a changed man. With only his piano for company, Grohl's pleading voice reveals fragile layers of insecurity and loneliness as he sings "all I want is to be home." Seems this rock & roll road warrior's mellowed some, albeit without compromising Foo Fighters' vitality.
Product Description
Having commemorated their tenth anniversary with a year-plus run commencing with In Your Honor (a double album the New York Times called an "unexpected magnum opus"), sold out rock arena shows and a toned down intimate theater trek, and a headlining gig at London's Hyde Park for a crowd of 85,000, the question looms larger than any in the Foo Fighters' career to date: What do they do for an encore?!? The answer comes in the form of "The Pretender," the first single from the band's sixth studio album [title]Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace[/title], out on Roswell/RCA. Produced by Gil Norton, who last worked with the band on 1997's double-platinum The Colour and The Shape (recently reissued in deluxe 10th anniversary form), Dave Grohl, bassist Nate Mendel, drummer Taylor Hawkins and guitarist Chris Shiflett have crafted a 12-track milestone that showcases and reconciles the band's every strength and sensibility in the most complex and confident Foo Fighters album to date.
1. The Pretender
2. Let It Die
3. Erase/Replace
4. Long Road To Ruin
5. Come Alive
6. Stranger Things Have Happened
7. Cheer Up, Boys (Your Make Up Is Running)
8. Summer's End
9. Ballad Of The Beaconsfield Miners
10. Statues
11. But, Honestly
12. Home

Dave Grohl finally opens up about Courtney Love

Sep 17, 2007
Dave Grohl has finally spoken about his heartbreak over Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain's rocky relationship with Courtney Love.
In an interview with The Guardian, the Foo Fighters singer addressed rumours that the band's new track 'Let It Die' is about the infamous couple.
The lyrics depicting "a simple man and his blushing bride/intravenous, intertwined" have already courted controversy, with many listeners assuming the lines refer to Cobain and Love.
Addressing the claims, Grohl enigmatically explained that the song was "written about feeling helpless to someone else's demise".
Speaking directly about Cobain and Love, he said: "I've seen people lose it all to drugs and heartbreak and death. It's happened more than once in my life, but the one that's most noted is Kurt."
Grohl added: "There are a lot of people that I've been angry with in my life, but the one that's most noted is Courtney. So it's pretty obvious to me that those correlations are gonna pop up every now and again."

Dunno if Dave plans to promote the new album by slamming a different person in the press every day ... http://www.nme.com/news/foo-fighters/31202Dave Grohl slams Paris Hilton
Fresh from unveiling his contempt for Courtney Love, Dave Grohl has now criticised party girl Paris Hilton, labelling her "a total raging, disgusting, rich, lazy party slut".
The Foo Fighters frontman reportedly also told The Sun newspaper: "Paris is fucking lame."
Grohl and Hilton reportedly fell out after meeting in a restaurant years ago, when the singer claims the millionaire heiress put on "the full princess attitude with the nose in the air".
Consequently, he concluded: "I pray that my daughter will not turn out like her."

Foo Fighters are interesting. Here's a guy who was the drummer for one of the biggest bands of the time, yet little did everyone know that he was a talented songwriter in his own right, a guy who would go on to become the frontman for a huge band of his own.

Rumor has it Grohl is going to be in the drummer's chair for the Zep reunion - not Little Bonham.

(I'm sorry, but I don't believe anything that comes out of that woman's mouth ...) Courtney Love claims Kurt Cobain 'loathed' Dave Grohl

Oct 2, 2007
Courtney Love has hit out at Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl, claiming that Kurt Cobain "loathed" him.
The song 'Let It Die', on Foo Fighters new album 'Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace', is widely assumed to be about the relationship between Kurt and Courtney.
It contains the lyric: "A simple man and his blushing bride/Intravenous, intertwined... You're so considerate/Did you ever think of me?".
Writing on her MySpace Courtney said: "As for that drummer, well he's hit on me so many times. He's just a very very conflicted guy about me, which is why he continually writes songs about me to hear he 'hates' me more than 'anyone else'.
"Kurt loathed HIM more than anyone else (except a journalist). In his will he made a codicil that Grohl was no longer a member of Nirvana. I just ignored the guy and will continue to."
She added: "Dave knows this, and he takes it out on me! Hey, it wasn't MY band and it wasn't MY idea! It's funny he 'hates' me since I don't think about him.
"He's just sub-mediocre kind of [guy] who does this 'nice guy' nonsense. There isn't a word he could he say that would ruffle my feathers, honestly. ANYWAY what a fun, fabulous, special evening!"

Without intent to inflame or incite, if I personally had to name the most overrated and overhyped band out there, I would name the Foo Fighters. If Grohl had no connection with Kurt Cobain and Nirvana, my opinion is his band would have faded away already. But again, that is just my opinion and I don't mean to offend anybody who loves them.

I'm not offended, but I'd have to disagree, and I'm not much of a fan. Without question his connection to Nirvana allowed him access and an initial exposure that many do not have; but the band's longevity can't be attributed to a band that has ceased to exist approx 15 years ago. The Foo's brand of humor and ability to craft very good pop songs - in a style very distinct from Nirvana - shouldn't be dismissed too readily. You may not like the music (I'm waiting for an eventual Greatest Hits to add them to my collection), but this industry and the audience is way too noncommital to reward on a past that is a century old in dog years...

I disagree 100% and I'm only a casual fan of Foo Fighters. They are the polar opposite of Nirvana and write insanely catchy songs that still manage to rock. They have racked up a massive amount of hits and their videos are consistently creative and hilarious.
It's been 12 years since the debut Foo Fighters release-not only are they still huge, they've outlasted Nirvana by plenty and have dedicated fans.
If the Nirvana thing had anything to do with their popularity, how did Krist Novoselic do with Sweet 75? Hideous that's how.
Your post didn't offend me either I just disagree and feel the Foo Fighters career stands on its own and they will be looked at as one of the biggest bands of the 90's and '00s.

I obviously just don't get the band or their music. I love Toto, always have from day one, but most people, when I mention that, they laugh at me and say, incredulously, "Toto?"....."TOTO??!" I'm sure we all love a band that most people don't get.
