Obviously, the thread title is wrong. I'm deliberately ignoring classic strips like Flash Gordon, The Phantom, Popeye, Peanuts, etc. Instead, I'm just taking the ones that always seem to be mentioned whenever comic strips are mentioned here.
I thought that ignoring classic strips would actually make for a better discussion. I want to force people to choose among these favorites and see which one would actually win a contest!

Calvin and Hobbes without question.
Bloom County coming in a close second.
And in third place, The Far Side.

Calvin and Hobbes was so good it stopped while on top. Respect! But of all time? Krazy Kat.

I have friends that based their artistic lives around Bloom County, but I never got a single panel of the damned thing.
C & H was perfection.
Peanuts is the Superman of comic strips. Changed so much.

Calvin & Hobbes edges out Bloom County in my book because BC was forced to shut down after the Mary Kay strips, it's back as Outland on Sunday's but it's not the same.

It was back as Outland for a while, but it's a strip called Opus now, and lacks anything resembling the snarky wit of Bloom County.

I'd blame Taft for this, but it was Mary Kay Cosmetics doing.
