The third volume in this series was just released:

>> The third and final volume of Phil Spector soundalikes is the equal of the previous two in every way.

A beguiling blend of fan favourites that we couldn't find room for on earlier volumes and tracks that we have spent years trying to license for this series, "Phil's Spectre III" features many selections that have never been legally reissued, appearing here from master tapes rather than from rare and worn 45s.

The CD also features several first time stereos, alternate and extended mixes and tracks that have hitherto stayed unissued since their recording dates, over 40 years ago.

The package features rare label shots and pix, and an authorative sleeve note from series co-compiler Mick Patrick.

A series finale that goes out with not so much a single gunshot as an almighty bang. Like Spector's own catalogue - it's "All Killer, No Filler"... <<

Actually, Spector did record filler. The B-sides of his legendary singles were mostly trivial, to ensure that the A-sides always got the airplay!

I haven't been able to take this one out of the CD player -- loads of great gems here, from David Gates' "My One & Only Jimmy Boy" performed by the Girlfriends, to the Jack Nitzsche-produced "Let The Good Times Roll" by Judy Henske, and other thunderous productions for 1910 Fruitgum Company, Martha & The Vandellas, Merry Clayton and other less notable names (but no less notable musically as these tracks prove)! It's too bad Ace announced this as the last volume in the series; they've unearthed a ton of great stuff in this series.

My very favorite Spector homage is "Little Does She Know" by the Kursaal Flyers. This live performance (man, I love You Tube!) doesn't include the astounding coda from the record--I swear there's gunfire in the mix--but you'll get the general idea. (Members of the Kursaal Flyers wound up in the Records, Eddie & the Hot-Rods, and the Rumour.)

You can add the two volumes of Jack Nitzsche productions from Ace. Nitzsche was Spector's arranger.

Indeed! Between the 3 PHIL'S SPECTREs, the 2 Jack Nitzsche compilations & the 3 volumes of THE LEIBER & STOLLER STORY, Ace's releases have been an embarrassment of riches lately...!

Two other producer anthologies from Ace: Gary Paxton and Kim Fowley, more like garage lunacy.
