Gettin' REAL tired of Miller. Finally saw 300 and although I loved the graphic novel (last good thing Miller ever did), the movie mostly plays like one huge music video. Nice imagery though. I liked Cooke's version of the Spirit and I think it's about as close as you're ever going to get in this day and age to a true Spirit story. I think Cooke's comments about Miller's Spirit are probably right on. I don't need more of Miller's blood and guts.

I'll wait until I see a trailer before I make up your mind. I think Miller is probably conscious of not wanting to turn The Spirit into Sin City.

We'll see, but even his friends (John Byrne) say he only writes one type of story these days, a Sin City one.

You're absolutely right, I shouldn't pre-judge until I see the trailer but just seeing Miller's poster art for it, it looks like a Sin City spin off already. I could be pleasantly surprised, in fact I hope so.....the Spirit deserves the best possible treatment.

I'm really hoping the poster art was just used to sell the studio on Miller doing the film. Based on the success of 300 and SIN CITY, though, I wouldn't be surprised if it winds up being the actual poster.

The 300 movie wasn't Miller though.

I think that Miller has enough respect for the source material here to make this into a damn good movie.

Miller was very heavily involved in the 300 movie though. I think he was always on set, they were about as faithful to all of his visuals as they were on Sin city and he was constantly on set as well. I think I still enjoyed the comic a whole lot more though. May have to reread that sucker again....I don't have the Spirit poster but if anyone else has it to show.....?

That is not real.

I honestly can't believe that's real, I don't mean it's a forgery, I just don't think they'll use it.

"A hero born, murdered, and born again", come on, that's not real, that is not real.

Was he?

I wasn't aware of that.

Yeah, that poster doesn't exactly make me feel optimistic. Sin Spirit.

>>Was he?

I wasn't aware of that.<<

He wasn't as involved as he was with Sin City (that seemed to border on micro-managing to get stuff so frame by frame perfect) but from what I've heard and read, he was pretty involved with 300 and that Director really respected the visuals of the comic quite a bit.....I liked the flick but I was reminded of gladiator quite a few times and I liked that better....

From the Sin City commentary, it really does sound like Miller was a co-director on that film. Not just in terms of setting up shots, but working with the actors on their performances as well.

I love Frank Miller. Even when he does terrible work, it's a fascinating trainwreck. I thought 300 the movie was good old popcorn chewin' fun. I might not be so concerned as I'm not a Spirit fan, however. I've read some of the Cooke issues, which are badass, but never any Eisner shit.

300 and Sin City were both great. When he's doing his thing, Miller is fantastic. It's just he seems to have lost the ability to do any OTHER thing.

I really can't trust Miller on anything anymore. That poster doesn't evoke Will Eisner to me.Some examples of Will's Spirit from the '80s reprint series..

That was indeed the case.

After that he realized he was quite fond of movie making, so he decided to do more of it, even going solo for The Spirit and Sin City 3.
