Here's good news for fans of the Wattstax soundtrack;

Stax is expanding their Various Artists Wattstax soundtrack to become 3CDs. On August 28, Stax Records will release a remastered 47-track album that will feature photos and recreations of Wattstax-era posters. The discs will be in a digipak and will provide a multi-page booklet with new liner notes. This will be a must have set that is promised to be available for a low price.

Eddie,

PBS is airing a new special in Detroit 8-1-2007 (Wed night 9:00 pm) called "Respect Yourself": The Stax Records Story". It's supposed to be 2 hours long.

I don't know if this has aired before, but it would be worthwhile if just to catch a clip of the Staples!

James,

Caught "Respect Yourself: The Stax Records Story" on PBS last night and it's great. And there were a few clips of The Staple Singers performing included in the show (as well as an inverview segment with Mavis Staples) so it's truly worthwhile. Hope you caught it.

I'm putting in for this as well. I'm going to be remembering the August 28 releases pre-orders for quite a while. It's August and I haven't started my September pre-orders yet! Eeeeech! LOL!

BTW, I also watched Respect Yourself last night. Along with the footage of Otis Redding and The Staple Singers footage, I was spell-bound by the showing of Mel & Tim's "Starting All Over Again" even though it was (if I'm remembering it correctly) a lip-synch video from back in my prime school days. I just love that song to death.

I got this today at 'Rama. While it includes a bunch of previously-unreleased material, it also deletes some tracks that appeared on the original LP and its sequel, Wattstax, Vol. 2. The various additions and subtractions are detailed on one convoluted page of the liner notes.

That's a little disappointing. Not so much that it will put me off buying it, mind you, but disappointing.
