This is a UK-only release on the wonderful RPM label:

>> What began as a quick knock out single by Pop master Geoff Stephens, the track 'Winchester Cathedral' accidentally became a #1 hit all over the world. Voiced in a session by John Carter, Stephens then quickly needed a group to follow up with the promotion. A hasty call to drummer and group leader Henry Harrison, then with his own R&B band (Cops n Robbers), set the wheels in motion and The New Vaudeville Band came alive, to enjoy a lengthy career well into the late 1970's. Collected here are the complete recordings credited to The New Vaudeville Band , plus a couple of unreleased tracks and song writing demos (including John Carter's demo of 'Winchester Cathedral' ). This is the first time on CD for all but the title track, and the LPs have not been available in over 30 years. Includes the international hits 'Winchester Cathedral', 'Peek A Boo', 'Finchley Central' and 'Green Street Green'. Liner notes include interviews with Geoff Stephens and John Carter. RPM. 2007. <<

"Winchester Cathedral" was the first "rock" record I ever bought, 'cause it was the first my Dad would let me buy. I guess the whole Rudy Vallee sound was familiar and non-threatening enough for my 9-year-old sensibilities. Then came "Snoopy vs. the Red Baron" and the Monkees, and after that there was no looking back.

Very cool Jimbo. Winchester Cathedral was my first album. I talked my mom into giving me a book of Top Value "yellow" stamps with the intention of getting an "album" at the redemption center in Joplin, Mo. This was the closest to a "rock" album that they had. I was pleasantly surprised that it contained A Kind of Hush -- which, of couse, was better by Herman's Hermits. But it seemed like a sort of bonus at the time. 8-)

Ok, now I've found this board while desperately looking for something like a "New Vaudeville Band message board" ...

So now here's my question: In the liner notes of the CD mentioned by Linda (which indeed is a marvellous CD, highly recommended to anyone who likes "Winchester Cathedral") they say that the band recorded a live album. And now I'm looking for that. I've already got one called "Live Vaudeville" (as vinyl LP), but that's from around 1976 and has just one vintage NVB song, "A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square". And I don't think that this is the live album they're talking about in the liner notes.

There's another album existing called "The New Vaudeville Band On Tour", so the title might suggest that it's a live album, but in fact it isn't.

So now does anyone of you know about a live LP / cassette / CD / video / DVD / whatever from the New Vaudeville Band from the 1960's? Any help would be appreciated!
