The problem I have with Pacino as Tony Montana is that he takes the performance over the top right from the beginning of the film and then has no place to go. So he stays there.

And with a few notable exceptions, has stayed there ever since.

I'm not a big DePalma fan anyway, so the movie's never been one of my favorites.
