I just read about this in Q Magazine. Looks like an interesting set. I vaguely recall seeing Bowie during the Glass Spider tour.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000QFAGEE/?tag=imwan-20
Filmed in Sydney over two nights, the 7th and 9th of November 1987, this DVD is a cut and paste of 22 songs that flows as if it's an actual concert over 104 minutes. You may recall the video that this has been remastered from.
Song list on the DVD:
1. Intro / Up the Hill Backwards
2. Glass Spider
3. Day-In, Day-Out
4. Bang Bang
5. Absolute Beginners
6. Loving the Alien
7. China Girl
8. Rebel Rebel
9. Fashion
10. Never Let Me Down
11. 'Heroes'
12. Sons of the Silent Age
13. Band Introduction
14. Young Americans
15. The Jean Genie
16. Let's Dance
17. Time
18. Fame
19. Blue Jean
20. I Wanna Be Your Dog
21. White Light / White Heat
22. Modern Love
The soundtrack is "up-mixed from the original stereo tapes" in Dolby digital and the film is DTS 5:1. The picture format is 4:3. However, there are no added features except for a photo gallery of 29 stills and an audio choice between PCM Stereo, DD Surround and DTS Surround. A single page insert with the credits accompanies the DVD.
The CD's are the recording of the Montreal concert at the Olympic Stadium on August 30th, 1987, and so a different song list is performed.
The song lists for the CD's:
CD 1:
1. Intro / Up the Hill Backwards
2. Glass Spider
3. Day-In, Day-Out
4. Bang Bang
5. Absolute Beginners
6. Loving the Alien
7. China Girl
8. Rebel Rebel
9. Fashion
10. Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps)
11. All the Mad Men
12. Never Let Me Down
CD 2:
1. Big Brother
2. '87 and Cry
3. 'Heroes'
4. Sons of the Silent Age
5. Time Will Crawl
6. Young Americans
7. Beat of Your Drum
8. The Jean Genie
9. Let's Dance
10. Fame
11. Time
12. Blue Jean
13. Modern Love

I've got this on my shopping list for this Tuesday. Being a slow week, I wonder if it will show up in the Sunday flyers.

Isn't this the tour with Peter Frampton on guitar?

Yes and he was great. I saw this tour in Atlanta and it was a big theatrical production with acrobatics and preformers all based around the giant spider on the stage and the record.
It is one of those "under-rated" records that gets panned when it initially comes out but plays better with time. IMO
And I thought the songs sounded good live as well.

I've had the import version on my wish list at Amazon for quite awhile now.
So this gets released domestically next week?

Was this the tour where he "said goodbye" to all his old classic hits? If so, I will be picking this up. I will never forgive Jimmy Buffet years ago for playing an extra night in town and causing the Bowie show to be canceled.

No. This one was in '84 and the Greatest Hits tour was sometime around '87 (+/-).
He said it was a greatest hits only tour and for the fans to come out because he would be "retiring" most of them. However, he has resurected most of them on his past two tours.
He can be very fickle, just like Neil Young.

But it says above this was recorded in 87! Obviously not the tour I'm thinking of though, since it's not exclusively old material.

My friend preordered the cheaper UK 3 disc edition from Amazon (1 for her & 1 as a gift to me). We got them a couple weeks ago. My understanding is that the 3 disc UK edition is already out of print, so I advice snapping these up fast. I haven't ahd a chance to play mine yet. Based on the liner notes, the 2 cd's appear to be an expanded version of the Montreal King Biscuit broadcast.

This tour on the DVD was in 1987 to support the Never Let Me Down Album. Bowie did not tour in 1984. The Sound And Vision tour was in 1990 and that was the last airing of the hits-false as it turned out!
Bowie despises this whole era although I thought the album was OK and I liked the tour despite how pretentious the whole thing was. It was quite a weird set list of new, classic and obscure material.
I saw that show at Veterans Stadium in Philly (crowd was around 40,000) just after I graduated high school. Squeeze and Tommy Conwell & Young Rumblers opened up.
I'll probably get this-but nobody has mentioned the price. Isn't it around $36 or so? I'll pass if it is.

I'm not sure if you're responding to me or someone else. There was a King Biscuit promo only release of the Glass Spider Montreal show. I own it (it will be on ebay soon!).
Sound & Vision was the title of the greatest Hits "Farewell" Tour. I saw that show. Adrian Belew was the guitarist.I believe the Sound & Vision tour was 1990.

Sound and Vision was 90...saw in L.A. before shipping out to Saudi. A then relatively unknown Lenny Kravitz opened.
Not only was Bowie 'done' with his GH - he was 'done' with his back catelogue. Of course that changed pretty quickly...first bringing in the 'deep cuts' of his back catelogue and then bring in more of the hits...but he basically has maintained a heavier emphasis on newer material in his shows.
My favorite Bowie show; I've seen him maybe 4 times: the Earthling tour...one of my favorite shows period. Great venue: Aragon Brawl Room in Chi-town; 'the sweet spot' for seats; a great Bowie look; supporting @ the time one of his better releases in almost a decade (I don't understand the drubbing this release gets - its was one of his rockin'est in years (Tin Machine excepted)); an excellent guitarist - Reeves; and a helluva set list (I will never forget Bowie coming out with an acoustic and doing a solo 'Quicksand' as an opener). Now that tour should be released!

Geff:
I was responding to Rich-those were his words above. I know the King Biscuit Show-I still have it recorded from '87.
NoURider-I saw the Earthling tour as well in Philly at the Electric Factory-great show with just a packed house of 2,000. Killer performance!

By 3 disc, are you talking about 3 CDs, or the 2 CD and 1 DVD set I mentioned above? If you are talking about 3 CDs, what is the track listing?

I agree, Earthling was one of his better late period cd's & tours. I also liked Hours cd & tour. Didn't go to either show but I've seen lots of video of both.

The import ($23) is actually cheaper than the new domestic ($31) at Amazon.
But you need a PAL dvd player for the import version.

I believe the PAL 3 disc edition is out of print (unless Virgin UK is pulling something similar to the Crosby IICORMN remaster; but I do believe the cd version was advertised as limited edition), so those who want the PAL set with cd's may want to buy it asap from one of the 3rd party sellers on Amazon.

I was thinking it's funny that I personally consider this a much more important release then the 2 disc Young Americans, but that one seemed to have stirred up more interest.

I have been lucky to enough to catch every Bowie tour since "the Serious Moonlight Tour" that has rolled through the NY area. Bowie is one of the best performers I have ever seen and I have never been disappointed by any show I have been to. I caught "The Glass Spider Tour" at Giants Stadium. Frampton on guitar was a bonus. Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam opened the show! Remember them?

Yup. This show was a dreadful bore. I walked out and I wasn't alone by any stretch.
