1 - i hate the 3-D cover NOT being in a jewel case. what do you think this will look like in 10 years?
2 - no booklet. you can download the 14 page booklet w/lyrics at http://www.3121.com (ink is expensive)
3 - worst thing of all! no frickin song titles anywhere in/on the entire package. that's right, not on the digipak and not on the disc. NO SONG TITLES, ANYWHERE. that is ridiculous.
renny
p.s. i like the songs.

i've been driving myself crazy trying to think if i have ever seen any other CD or vinyl record that didn't have the song titles on it somewhere.
i thought of van halen's OU812 which had the songs in the wrong order, but they were there.
can anybody think of this ever happening at any other time?

Renny:
It's just Prince being a pretentious twit-which he is. I was pissed too and it boggles the mind-the cheap, crappy packaging, then not even listing the songs-why buy it?
Maybe that's his point-after all he gave the CD away in the UK with a crappy newspaper, so who knows?
Ozzy and others have also been releasing crap packaging and I don't get it.
By the way-I also like this CD, but then again I liked Musicology and 3121 as well, though those albums and this one had definite filler. Overall though-I still dig what the man does musically and I like what I've heard thus far.
As for your question-if I'm right, Sigur Ros took pretentious to new levels with their album ( ). That's right-an open parenthesis. There were no titles or lyrics but you could present your own thoughts on blank pages. Maybe in the future they can release a concept album called "&". I'm sure it would rock like no tomorrow. I'm not 100% sure, but I think there were no song titles.

The bonus CD with the new They Might Be Giants album has no song titles listed. Same with the new Spoon bonus disc.

I'm going to release an album which will be a blank disc so that the listener can put his or her own sounds on it... the ultimate personal listening experience.
The first pressing will be limited to 50,000 copies... each individually numbered (collect 'em all).

Jimbo,
Yes, but this is the actual album we're talking about here-and it's utterly stupid not list the titles. Not listing bonus tracks is pretty damn dumb too!

This whole notion of "go to my website to get the liners" is yet another reason why CD sales will continue to go down into the toilet.

absolutely.
but then again, not including a booklet is probably how they paid for the 3 million free CD's they gave away in england.

I don't know if this was a common problem, or if it was intentional, but my copy of Prince's "Lovesexy" has all the songs on one track. Try ripping that! (And that came out long before most of us could rip music from CDs anyway.)
On Planet Earth: I'm, quite frankly, not that annoyed. Yes, I think that the whole maintenance of the packaging is complicated by the holographic cover on a digipack, but who are we fooling here? Aren't we all (speaking of ICE/Imwan folks only) a little obsessive about this sort of thing? I have no doubt that we'll all find ways to keep our copies of Planet Earth looking as close to pristine as possible. That's just how we are. I guess what will be more offensive is seeing all the beat-up copies filling up the racks at the used stores.
On the music: Very nice... an entertaining, and pretty unassuming album. With a title like Planet Earth, I was sort of expecting something dubiously epic. But it's just a big make out session with a couple of uptempo pop numbers thrown in for good measure. It reminds me, more in its apparent effortlessness than its music, of "Chaos and Disorder". And I love "Chaos and Disorder" for exactly that reason.

For the price you pay for a CD, the least they can do is provide liner notes and a jewel case. Part of the fun of getting a new album is reading the liners to find out who wrote what, who played on what and all that stuff.
Hell, in some cases, the booklet is better than the actual CD!
This practice of cheap cardboard casings and no liner notes is inexcusable.

thanks for the tracklisting...I've listened to it twice, and its a pretty good listen. I agree, a some filler - actually the ballads to me, particularly track 3 - which surprises me, he does have a way with slow jam...
decent guitar work throughout...

I think it's worth it to me. But how do I know that I'm getting the indexed version?
One customer reviewer at Amazon.co.uk said "This cd has only one track," but the next reviewer wrote "on my copy despite the CD label saying 'songs are in a continuous sequence' all the songs are have individual tracks, making it a 9 track album."

Hmmm. I noticed that the "one track" quote was from 2002. I don't know when the indexed version was released, but I read online that the Amazon import was indexed, I ordered it, and it was!

We were carrying the German Warner Lovesexy last year before our supplier went out of business & it was also indexed.

Well, I just ordered one, so I'll find out for myself in about ten days or so.
Total price was £7.31 (£4.23 for the CD plus £3.08 shipping, or "delivery charge" as they put it), which translates into $14.81 American (as of 2007.07.27 16:40:33 UTC) according to XE.com.

I got my copy of Lovesexy from Amazon.co.uk today, only four days after I ordered it. I've started a separate thread in the Collector's Corner forum for further discussion of the indexed version of Lovesexy, including some elaboration on what I received, and you can find that right here. Any future postings in this thread will now be entirely taken up with Prince's Planet Earth, and/or its packaging. Thank you and good night.
