WB shines Flash light
DC Comics hero next in line for H'wood makeover

David Goyer has given new meaning to the words "back in a flash."

After collaborating with Warner Bros. on its upcoming "Batman Begins" pic, Goyer is mining the vaults of DC ComicsDC Comics once again.

Goyer has committed to write, produce and direct a featurefeature adaptation of the story of DC Comics hero the Flash for Warner Bros. Pictures.

Pic is still in development and is the first to be identified under Goyer's recently inked overall production pactpact with the studio.

Created by Gardner Fox and Harry Lampert, the Flash first appeared in DC Comics late in 1939. He's the alter ego of chemistry student Jason Peter "Jay" Garrick, an aspiring athlete whose exposure to heavy water fumes gives him the ability to move at incredible speeds.

" 'Flash' is my favorite of the properties," said Goyer, speaking of the DC Comics stable. "I think the character of the Flash, who moves faster than the speed of light, opens itself up to rich cinematic and story ideas."

Goyer most recently wrote, directed and produced New Line Cinema's "Blade: Trinity," which Warner Bros. execexec VP of production Lynn HarrisLynn Harris also produced after ankling.

Harris -- who praised Goyer's "tremendous credibility with (the DC) fan base" -- will now oversee development on "The Flash" at Warners.

Gee, I guess Barry Allen never existed here either, huh?

Maybe Barry will show up twenty years later like in the comics.

I betcha this was just a case of Variety writers who have no idea what they're talking about, and they did a little internet hopping to find out who the Hell Flash is...and they found Jay. After all, the "Jason Peter Garrick" name is one you don't hear all that often.

Wonder if they even know that there was a TV show, either?

In any case, I wonder if even Mr. Goyer's decided who'll be in the film. There was a discussion on a Blade III bulletin board where he suggested that Ryan Reynolds would make a good Wally West.

oo, I hope it really will be Jay, though. I'd love to see someone wearing that wacky bucket on his head for two hours

Nah, they'd put Jay in the modern costume. No way would they pass up a chance to play around with all the new materials. Also, he'll be young, set in present day.

They'll probably put him in black leather, ditch the wings on his head, and have him running in 'bullet time'.

Where's John Wesley Shipp when you need him?
