Hip O Select in July and August is suppose to release a 2cd Bo Diddley Chess masters collection with alternates and outtakes, and then a 4cd Chuck Berry box of the same.
These sets are to be part of exhaustive series posssibly covering all their works respectively through out the years, much like the 10/12cd Chess Years sets on Charly from the early 90's.
Depending on the response to these collections, it will determine if later work, and if more material is released.

Strange that they should chance it on alternates and outtakes, when so much previously released material is just sitting on the shelf.

There is already a Bo Diddley Chess 2 CD set (I own it). That one has most or all of the hits, so maybe this one is meant as a supplemental? The Chuck Berry one I'm very much looking forward to though!

There's also a three-disc Chess Chuck Berry set.

This is very interesting news. I'll probably put in for both as well. These two are pillars. To hear their artistic process by way of outtakes and alternates would be most interesting. Please keep us up to speed on these o.k.?

I recently picked up the 2006 remastered "Ultimate" Chuck Berry from BMG. I scanned it briefly on my high end system for sound quality & played it in the car. Keeping the above in mind, it seemed to be a decent remaster & the only missing title that mattered to me was Bye Bye Johnny.
My Ding A Ling has NOT aged well.

Strange and sad that they should start a new Chuck Berry collection all over again while all I am (we're?) waiting is more companion volumes to the 2 cds released for Chess' 50th Anniversary (the expanded reissues of School Days and From St Louis To Liverpool).
To me, they looked and sounded like the ideal start of a complete collection set

I agree, I'll be very glad to get these new collections, but I was hoping for some more of the original albums of both performers. I wonder if we'll ever see any of Bo's early 60's albums-"Bo Diddley is a Lover", "Bo Diddley's A Twister", "Surfin with Bo Diddley", etc..
I suppose there's not much demand. Maybe the Chuck Berry sold nothing, and that killed any chance for more original albums.

BGO has done some Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry twofers, so there's hope of more from that label.

Is there any more information on these? I have been searching but have not found a thing.

I had been wondering about these. I checked the Hip-O Select site a few times a day the past couple of days for the Bo Diddley title. I can wait a little bit more now.
