I see that Shout! Factory is issuing this CD with 3 bonus tracks.

It's due out on August 7th.

I believe it was a digital recording, so I don't know if there is room for any improvement to the sound.

A worthy endeavor, but why did they feel the need to change the cover?

An interview with Jennifer about this reissue:

>> Twenty years later, Jennifer Warnes tells P&P of "Famous Blue Raincoat," "I listen to it often and it still thrills me." No wonder, the album was a tip of the hat to Leonard Cohen, a legend she sang backup for on tours in the early 1970s. And the opening track, "First We Take Manhattan," features the late Stevie Ray Vaughan on guitar.

As for the bonus tracks on the Shout! Factory package, Warnes says:

"Of the four previously unreleased recordings we added, two were recorded at The Institute in Austin, Texas, with Mitch Watkins, Austin's 'Guitar Player of the Year' and mixed at Jackson Browne's GrooveMasters studio a few months ago.

"One of the new recordings is a live jam with a string quartet. String quartets rarely 'jam,' but this group breaks that rule with gusto and surprise.

"The fourth recording is a live concert in Europe, 1992, accompanied by a Belgian orchestra and choir. I hope the video of this audio makes it to YouTube. Twenty-thousand people were there, not an intimate home recording.

"Bernie Grundman remastered all these new recordings at the same time he remastered the old original analog tapes of'Famous Blue Raincoat.' 'Famous Blue Raincoat' had been out of print in North America since 1995. Some bootlegs and imports available on the Internet were not sounding right to me. Perhaps the manufacturers were using limiters in the transfer process, I don't know. This 20th anniversary addition is now the best version available. We also created a 24-page booklet with private photos from my personal collection. Copies may be purchased directly from jenniferwarnes.com."

So, what is Warnes up to these days? She's plotting more reissues.

"We want to provide more of my album titled 'The Well' that came out briefly in 2001 and then disappeared. Mixed by George Massenburg, mastered by Bernie Grundman, with great players: Vinnie Colaiuta, Arlo Guthrie, Doyle Bramhall, etc., 'The Well' is also appreciated by fans who love 'Famous Blue Raincoat.' As of this writing, there seems to be interest in its rerelease this year. I have other recordings that have not been released yet and I am working on those now that 'Famous Blue Raincoat' is restored and out.

"A comprehensive 'Best of' needs to be created. There's talk of a live concert TV special around 'Famous Blue Raincoat' and possible tour. There is a new Christmas duet with Canadian Michel Bérubé, lots of collaborations. Check in often at the newspage at my Web site http://www.jenniferwarnes.com for the details." <<
