So I've been rewatching this show on DVD, and I am glad to say that it is just as good as I remember it.
I remember being so frustrated with the network and the way they shuffled nights and time slots when it originally aired.
It's a good cast, nice production values, good writing (by Howard Chaykin for many episodes no less), and it had some great guest stars, including Mark Hamill as the Trickster. That is note worthy, because the persona he created here is what he brought over with him when he later voiced the Joker in the various incarnations of the Batman animated series.
Anyway. I'm really enjoying re-watching these. I'm just disappointed that they didn't include anything in the way of extras in this set.

I haven't re-watched any of the episodes. I may Netflix the series soon. But I have very fond memories of this series, second only to the Timm/Dini Batman as the best of all TV adaptations of comics characters. (Smallville is #3, and to be fair I've missed all of the last season - and I also missed a bunch of JLU which may well tip the scales for #2, or possibly even #1).) The Flash TV series was great, and deserved better treatment from the network.

I remember disliking this series quite a bit, but I only saw about half of the episodes of the original season. I'd be interested in seeing the entire season now, but I don't do that "renting of the DVD" thing.
Perhaps another solution will present itself.

It also got off to a bad start, because it was scheduled on Thursday nights against Bill Cosby and The Simpsons, which was the new hot show that year (1990). They adjusted the show's time to start at 8:30 - weird for an hour show - and over the course of the season...well, we know what happened there. The TV Flash was an interesting hybrid. His alter-ego was named Barry Allen, but many elements of the Wally West Flash were incorporated into the characterization. A really good show that never had a chance.

I especially thought the costume was convincing! I mean, we all knew he was buff like that, right?
Still, at least they gave a nod to Jay Garrick in the pilot.

I liked it a lot at the time, but when I rewatched it a couple of years ago it really didn't hold up for me. There were a handful of great episodes, like the Trickster and Nightshade appearances, but I wound up only making it through about 2/3 of the season before I sent it back to Netflix.

Yeah, you better run, Chris.
I would be throwing away my money on Netflix, Matt. I'm just not much of a renter.

Yeah, but then I thought about it and realized that you don't scare me. I mean it's not like you're Linda.

My only complaint about the Flash tv series dvds is that the episodes weren't digitally remastered (or at least not as well as it could have been). I thought the picture quality was very lacking.

I should also note that I was (and to some extent still am) not very knowledgeable about the Flash in general. So any liberties that may have been taken with the character bothered me not one whit; I'm not in a position to judge that sort of thing. But I enjoyed the TV series.

I didn't mind the liberties, but, then, according to some old coot, I'd be a fake fan. I actually don't mind the different takes that happen to characters as you change mediums.

I watched and taped Flash (still have the eps on vhs) because, well, it was the Flash.
But, the differences...
The Flash was an urban legend.
Jay was his brother instead of his doppelganger/mentor.
Barry's dad was now a cop and a jerk.
Iris sort of fell out of the picture.
Barry had Wally's need to eat.
The sleek Flash outfit was replaced with a velure muscle suit.
The villains were toned down from the comics, with the exception of Trickster, who was played as being insane.
It was fun to watch, but had little resemblance to the Barry or Wally or Jay of DC comics.
