I think the most interesting essay Ditko ever wrote was "Jack Kirby's Spider-Man"(but I have not read them all), it mentions Kirby taking credit for Spider-Man twice or more, do you think Kirby just wanted more to his name and lied or do you think he just remembered creating the prototype and his memory faded a little and forgot about Ditko re-designing him?
I think it's a little strange that anyone could think that a costume like that could be a Kirby design, if you compare the trends in each artists costume designs, you notice trends in the design. Have a look at the different sections of the costumes and the directions they go in. There are certain things there that Kirby never did. The way Spider-Mans eyes are drawn had been used on his drawingsof monsters in the fifties. But I don't think I have to convince anyone here.

Kirby designed a Spider-Man, but the character bore little-to-no resemblance to the Ditko character. Kirby's design had buccaneer boots, flared gloves and a web-gun that he kept in a holster on his hip!

My suspicion is that Kirby recalled some involvement with the character and made that claim, although in earlier interviews he mentioned that Ditko took it and made it his own. Ditko's Spider-Man is unique, and there is no doubt in my mind that under Jack Kirby it would have been a totally different character.

Kirby was a bitter old man in the 80s who began taking wildly more credit than he should have, not only on Spider-Man but other things, thus becoming guilty of the same things he complained about.

Hmmmm. Ditko's rendering and recollection of the Kirby Spiderman impressed me as being far more detailed than one would think, especially given that Kirby's unpublished SM was rumored to have only appeared in the final few panels - and 46+ years ago!

It's certainly possible that Ditko has an excellent memory. Yet, could it also be that Ditko had access to copies of those Kirby pages in more recent years - or possession of the actual pages, perhaps?

I'm willing to bet that Ditko's recollection is more accurate in this case.

But Kirby did once create a character called "Mr. B" whom Ditko shamelessly stole, and renamed......;)

History will show that I, the creator of Spiderman, also created Spider-Man.

In fact, it was one J.L. Byrne in a time-machine who travelled back to the past, and then he.....

I think Ditko's quote itself here is old, so there wouldn't have been a span of 46+ years.
