There is absolutely no way I could possibly narrow it down to just one song from him.

I'm also crazy about "Philadelphia Freedom", a homage to Gamble and Huff.

I was really into 70s Elton John when I was about 9 / 10 years old. Yes, my parents were worried about me
But there's some good stuff in there, especially the one's mentioned above and Buh-buh-buh-Benny and the Jets, Crocodile Rock, Saturday Night's alright for Fighting, Take Me to the Pilot....
I'll remember some more later.

Being from Philly, I can tell you that song was written for Billie Jean King's World Tennis Team the Philadelphia Freedoms. Musically, perhaps a little Philly soul with a hint of disco as well. Great tune one of my faves.
My favorite Elton song would be "Sacrifice".

So many to choose from...I'll go with "Levon" for now.
My favorite nonhit is "Crazy Water" from Blue Moves. Great little overlooked rocker. (Nonhit in the US anyway, it did reach #27 as a single in the UK).

Yes, you're right, I don't remember lyrics too well. It's a tribute to Billie Jean King, the Team, and musically, Gamble and Huff. It always cheers me up!

I agree-the melody has stuck with me since I was 6 when that came out. It was played forever in Philly obviously, but the following year, 1976 was the huge Independence celebration and I'll always remember the fireworks and that song. Then, Elton played in front of 500,000 on the 4th in 2005 and played it again and watching that brought back a flood of memories!
Of course, the tennis team died quickly, although they've been back for a few years now to the few who care!

It's between Daniel, Your Song, and Come Down In Time. I'd probably go with the last one, just because I didn't hear it on the radio a thousand times years ago.

"Hold Me Closer Tony Danza" does make me weepy and nostalgic for Baily Quarters.

"Someone Saved My Life Tonight" for me. When I was a teen, I used to practice my drums and play along to that song frequently. Nigel Olsson is a great drummer in my opinion; I was glad to hear that he has returned to Elton's band, after a decade-long retirement.

I agree there are too many to name just one, but my favorite non-hit has got to be "I'm Going To Be A Teenage Idol". It's nothing profound, just a great, upbeat pop tune, the kind I wish he would do more of these days.
