and they played a video from Soul II Soul "Back To Life". And I thought, what happened to those guys. Funny how some groups have a momentary hit and then disappear.
Anyone else remember these guys?

I still like their two big US hits, "Back to Life" and "Keep on Movin'." In fact, I already find myself nostalgic for dance tunes from the late 80s and the 90s.
In a bizzare and tragic incident, one of the featured female vocalists in Soul II Soul, who went by the name Do'Reen, was killed when she was hit by a car, fleeing a supermarket where she'd been stopped for shoplifting.

The soul music scene in the UK really got going with Soul II Soul.

Loved that first album of theirs. THAT'S real soul music. Too bad they faded so quickly.

Actually, Soul II Soul's string of hits in the UK stretched well into the 90s, and they had 5 straight Top 10 albums over there.

They pretty much invented -- or at least popularized -- that funky, shuffling drum pattern that also pops up on tracks like Suzanne Vega's DNA-mixed "Tom's Diner," Primal Scream's "Loaded," and several other things from that era.

I always thought it was inventive. Those were the days of pop music. Some real good stuff hidden deep in my collection from those years.
