Hey everyone,
I don't know if most of you know this but I used to be involved with the late Future Comics. I am now going to do some stuff for Big Bang comics. I wanted to get some opinions on BBC from the only comic fans I respect, Linda and her peeps .
What is your opinion of BBC?
Where do you think they are doing well?
What could be improved?
Whose your favorite character?
Whose your least?
If you could recommend one thing, business or marketing wise, for them to do what would it be?
I'm sure I will think of more questions. Thanks for all the help.

Allen, I'm not familiar with BBC. Do they have a website we could sample?

The books look like (as Mel would say) Big Fun. (Though they gotta do something about those colors on their website. My eyes are still having a problem seeing straight.)

I have not see any Big Bang items in my LCS, at least any that in any way caught my eye.

What is your opinion of BBC? I only read one of the very early issues. It was pretty much a likeness to older DC material. Not much to write home about.
What could be improved? I think BBC should get rid of the strict archetypes and create more distinct characters. I'd also move more toward 70's writing/art ( maybe that's already going on... )
Who's your favorite character? I believe that Knight Watchman was the only one I know.
If you could recommend one thing, business or marketing wise, for them to do what would it be? Make a story from an issue available on the web site so everyone can sample the product.

(crinkling nose) Whats ironic is the very stuff that doesn't seem to work in the anal Direct Market, is exactly what works so well with mainstream audiences, like manga, Archie, kid books etc. I believe the DM is so screwed up it makes it almost impossible to fix. Regarding the website, I will keep you posted when I redo it. I agree that the way it is now (I had nothing to do with the current design) is poor. I do like the idea of sample issues (PDFs) and we spoke about doing that very thing. I can tell you it will be very all ages friendly.

Are the Big Bang Comics in color? If not, that would be my only suggestion on improving them!

Allen, have you thought about marketing through Scholastic or other book companies that provide elementary/junior high students with book order forms in school?
I used to order Dynamite and Bananas magazines via those kinds of order forms in the late 70's.

They used to be but sales made it financially difficult.
And yes, we have thought about stuff like Scholastic etc. If anyone has any connections, please contact me.
Keep on with these great ideas.
I have one other request. If anyone has a connection with someone in the mall business, please let me know.

I have one fun question for the group. I have always felt, in my opinion, that the weakest character was Ultiman. He never felt "Super" enough.
Anyone here have any ideas to revamp him, either visually or storywise?

I reviewed one of Big Bang Comics' issues for CBG: Round Table of America #1.
Stuff that could be improved:
1. Lettering! They need a pro letterer, as the guy they got now is atrocious!
2. The anatomy is strange and distracting. The quality of art seems to vary widely between Big Bang issues.
3. They need to ditch the prose stories in the back. I hate prose in comic books, but that's a personal pet peeve.
Stuff I like:
1. It's an honest homage to the Silver Age without any wink-wink elements or anachronisms. I like the concept, and want to see more.

My only published comics work so far has been a one-page prose story...a fella's gotta get his foot in the door somehow ! I guess I'm gonna have to track down some recent issues of BBC and give them a try. I don't remember any prose stories in the early issue I read.

Well the stuff in RTA was different than what they usually do so don't judge it by one issue.
Personally, I prefer the Golden and Silver Age stuff and feel little need for modern Big Bang comics.

Anyone ever read anything from Big Bang Comics? I just put an in order of a few of their more recent books from their website, but I've never read anything from them before. Looks fun. Merged into original Big Bang thread. ~ Linda

On the strength of the covers, I've ordered the rest of their output from mycomicshop.com. Looks like I've got a lot of reading to do....
