The Catman is back!
http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=71556
Original KISS Drummer PETER CRISS To Release New Solo CD 'One For All' In July - Apr. 30, 2007 Peter Criss, founding member and drummer of iconic rock group KISS, will release his new solo CD, entitled "One for All", July 24 on Silvercat Records, distributed by Sony/RED. The CD will be distributed day-and-date to fans across the globe.
An autobiographical collection of songs that Criss produced and recorded over the course of two years, "One for All" also includes several cover tunes that reflect his outlook on life at this point in his long-standing career.
The lead vocalist and co-writer of what to this day remains KISS' biggest Billboard hit, "Beth", which also went on to win a People's Choice Award, Criss goes back to his songwriting roots with this new CD. Says Criss: "The most important thing is that my fans and other people will get a whole new outlook on me with this CD. I'm reinventing myself at my own pace, and for me, it's now, more than ever, about being true.”
"One for All" is the first fully self-produced CD that Criss has recorded — in addition to arranging and writing the lyrics and melodies for most of the material on the CD.
Joined by longtime friends and acclaimed musicians — Grammy award-winning bandleader Paul Shaffer and bassist Will Lee, as well as guitarist Mike McLaughlin — "One for All" is a variously styled project, profoundly rich in ballads that touches on all aspects of Criss' life, and draws on his love of rock and R&B. The title track, recorded with the Church of Transfiguration Boys Choir, was written in the wake of 9/11 and sets the tone for the CD. Other songs include: "Doesn't Get Better Than This", "Last Night", "Faces in the Crowd", "Heart Behind the Hands", "Send in The Clowns", and even a tribute song to his longtime bandmate and friend Ace Frehley, titled "Space Ace".

I knew this album would be popular, but man was I unprepared for the deluge of replies to what will ultimately end up being...album of the year.

One of the worst album covers I have ever seen.
Dreadful....
The shot at the top of his official site would be a huge improvement...
This just sucks!

It looks like the Catman may sell more than ten copies of his new album. Read on...
PETER CRISS To Release 'Special Edition' Of New Solo CD Via Best Buy From: BLABBERMOUTH.net
The legendary PETER CRISS — founding member, drummer and vocalist of the iconic rock group KISS — in an unprecedented CD promotion, is releasing a special edition of his new upcoming solo CD, "One for All", which will be available worldwide on July 24.
In dedication to his fans, Criss personally autographed a limited amount of CDs of the "special edition" package, which will be marked with a "gold" sticker on the CD, and will be available in the U.S. at the retail chain Best Buy.
"One for All" on Silvercat Records, distributed by Sony/RED, is an autobiographical collection featuring Criss' self-penned tunes, in addition to several cover songs and tribute songs to his fans, that reflect his outlook on life at this point in his long-standing career. In addition to arranging and writing the lyrics and melodies for most of the material on the CD, "One for All" is the first fully self-produced CD by Criss. He was also joined by longtime friends and acclaimed musicians — bandleader Paul Shaffer and bassist Will Lee, as well as guitarist Mike McLaughlin.

Well, Amazon's listing for the domestic pressing is finally up (this was listed only as an import pre-order for the longest time). Here's a nice BIG cover image for Chris to enjoy:
>> Best known to the entire world as The Catman, a founding member and original drummer of the legendary KISS, Peter Criss has returned with his latest musical project, ONE FOR ALL, a collection showcasing his far-ranging talent as a skillful singer-songwriter and his vast range as a gifted vocalist. Intensely personal and autobiographical, ONE FOR ALL, is a song cycle of variously styles, profoundly rich ballads that touch on all aspects of Peter’s life, looking back at his legendary music career while also turning within to reflect on family and friends. It’s the latest chapter in a life story that has given us one of rock’s greatest legacies. <<
1. One For All
2. Doesn't get better than this
3. Last Night
4. What a difference a Day Makes
5. Hope
6. Faces in the Crowd
7. Send in the Clowns
8. Falling All over again
9. Whisper
10. Heart behind these Hands
11. Memories
12. Space Ace

(Hey Chris, any word on whether the import versions will have additional tracks?)

Linda,
The fact that Peter even has an album coming out still blows my mind. I haven't put too much thought or research into this upcoming album because of all the KISS members' solo albums, Peter's have always been the least interesting to me.
On the other hand, it can't be any worse than Gene Simmons' Asshole album from a few years back. Crap, absolute crap.
Perhaps I'll do some checking to see if there are any interesting variants. I have a feeling this is one album that die-hards may want to get right away, as it will probably go out of print like Peter's other post-KISS solo albums.

Not really clear if there's any extra content on the Best Buy special edition? Of course, if it's on sale for $9.99, it'll be worth it to pick it up at BB anyway.

At the very least, I'd like to hear Space Ace from this "intensely personal and autobiographical" album

Why??
At least Paul put some effort into his album. Gene's sounds like he fit the recording sessions in between making deals and performing in a KISS tribute band.

Dr. Chris Evil wrote: Beauvoir wrote: I'll take at least some of the tracks from "ASSHOLE" over anything on "LIVE TO WIN".... Why?? Because I honestly believe that some of the songs on Gene's album (ie: "Black Tongue") are more interesting than anything on Paul's. I don't think that Gene's record is anything on the level of 70's classic Kiss but I do appreciate that, as on his 1978 solo debut, he tried to do some stuff that was a little different that what he does with the band. I appreciate him stepping out of his "demon" role and letting us inside his inner feelings abit (honestly how can you not be touched by "Now That You're Gone" knowing as I'm sure you do the story of Gene's relationship with his father?). Dr. Chris Evil wrote: At least Paul put some effort into his album. I don't know about that. In 1978 Paul basically released sides 3 & 4 of "LOVE GUN" as his solo debut. For "LIVE TO WIN" he has basically released an album of "DETROIT ROCK CITY" soundtrack out-takes... Dr. Chris Evil wrote: Gene's sounds like he fit the recording sessions in between making deals and performing in a KISS tribute band.
Well, you know that at least the first part of that statement is not true (although I agree with the point that you were trying to make that gene spends too much time on business deals). Gene's album actually is more a clearing of the decks, bringing songs that have been sitting aside finally to the surface (ie" Waiting For The Morning Light" and "Carnival Of Souls").
I hear ya on the tribute band part though....

Well, at least we agree on that!
As for the other stuff, we agree to disagree. I will give you props for explaining your side of the issue eloquently.
I'm not saying Paul's album is great, but it's pretty good. Not as good as his 1978 solo album, but how could it be??
See how interesting a new Peter Criss solo album is?? We end up debating the merits of Paul and Gene's recent stuff. Oh well, such is being a KISS fan.

For the record (and just to completely demolish any credibility that I may have...) I am a HUGE fan of Peter's 1978 solo album!
Well, actually I like them all for different reasons but, yeah..Peter's is a real fave with me and has been for almost 20 years now.

I'm a KISS fanatic and I'm not even going to entertain the thought of listening to Peter's album, or Paul's, or Gene's. Not going there. Peter's album from 1978 is, in my opinion, one of the worst albums ever made and I am far from alone in that belief! Beauvoir-you are a brave man indeed for publically declaring your love for that album and I give you props for being so bold!
Ace is the only one I've ever purchased anything of on his own and his stuff is fairly mediocre, but I still like his guitar playing, sloppy as it is. He's one of my favorite players and always will be.
I wish KISS would put out a new album so the "tribute" comments can go away, but until they do, that will continue.
I wonder-if Tommy and Eric had new characters/costumes would KISS be bashed as much for continuing? Probably, but a little less.
I still love the current lineup (musically if not ethically)-though nothing will touch the original foursome, just in sheer unity and originality.

If memory serves me right, Peter Criss sold one of his early post-Kiss solo albums via advertising promising that all copies sold via a certain ad would be personally autographed, but in reality the signature was a printed facsimile.
