You'll always be a planet to me pluto

WASHINGTON - Pity poor Pluto, the puny former planet is facing yet another indignity. Demoted from planethood a year ago into a new category of dwarf planet, it now turns out that it isn't even the biggest one of those.

"This is sort of Pluto's last stand," joked Emily L. Schaller of California Institute of Technology, co-author of a report in Thursday's issue of the journal Science.

When the International Astronomical Union redefined planets last year, it created the new subcategory dwarf planets, and Pluto was thought to be the largest in that group.

Planetary astronomy professor Michael E. Brown and graduate student Schaller found otherwise while studying Dysnomia, the moon of Eris, another dwarf planet.

Using the Keck Observatory and Hubble Space Telescope they were able to calculate the movement of Dysnomia and, with that information, calculate the mass of Eris at 27 percent more than Pluto. But even though Eris tops Pluto, Earth is still 360 times more massive.

"Pluto and Eris are essentially twins — except that Eris is slightly the pudgier of the two," Brown said.

Eris, by the way, is named for the Greek goddess of, among other things, rivalry.

Goofy is a dog, In fact he was originally named Dippy Dawg, in concept form. He went by George Geef in the 50s. Now he is named Goofy Goof.

Pluto is just a retarded, slave dog.

I have a plutonic relationship with most women.

They don't recognize me either.

Poor Pluto. For many years they thought it might be about the size of Earth. Then in recent decades as telescopes got better they kept having to revise estimates of its size downward. In the 1980s they were joking that it would eventually disappear completely. In a way it did....

Unfortunately, Steinbrenner got things slightly wrong. Pluto is not smaller than Eris, but rather ERIC, or as it's official name 27POTUSA or 10CJOTUS or Tango Alpha Foxtrot Tango.

Frank Ono Saxon of NASA is amazed at what they've discovered so far. "At first, we thought Eric was an insignificant dwarf planet, but somehow that planetoid manages to gain more and more mass every year. It's getting huge! I know this sounds incredible, but within ten to twenty years Eric may become as big as one of the giant planets like Jupiter (code named Baker Yankee Romeo November Echo) and affect the gravitation of the entire solar system.

At Cape Canaveral in Florida, Linda notices more unique things about planetoid Eric. "We notice that Eric is generating its own frequency as it gains mass, and when we convert that frequency into sound, it's unlike anything we've ever heard. We've also noticed an increased number of satellites around Eric, and they seem to have....no, I can't say it!"

We will keep you updated with more news about Eric in the future...

It's common knowledge Eric is larger than most plantetoids.

It's just a disgrace

My very educated mother just served us nine ---------

Nine what? Nine what? Pickles? Pizza?

No. we're left hanging. She didn't even serve us Nothing. we never know and a rift opens in the space time continuum.

Pluto should never have been made a planet, it was made a planet with faulty information under bad guidelines about what defined a planet.

So let's redefine it :)

They're only fluid, ever changing words :)

I assure you to the average person alive now anyway, Pluto remains a plant. At least until we all die off ;)

Sheesh, as a kid I hoped they'd discover a 10th one in the Solar System never thought they'd take away/

By the definition of what makes Pluto a planet there would be like 20 some odd planets in this solar system, including several asteroids, and random other fragments of crap.

I had friends in Elementary school who had trouble with nine, 20 some odd is too fucking many, besides, if we make everything a planet, it just won't be special anymore.

Pluto had to go.
