I've been re-reading the Terror of Trigon TPB that reprints New Teen Titans Vol. 2 #'s 1 - 5 (1984). About half way through it I realized just how DC could get back to the pre-Crisis universe.

For those of you who may not have read it, the storyline for those issues is that Raven gives in to her evil side and sides with her father, Trigon. The Titans are trying to find Raven and travel to Azarath. While they are there, Raven and Trigon take over the entire Earth. They turn it into a rocky, desolate dustball.

The heroes, Superman, Batman, the JLA and others are shown latched to rocks, their bodies also turned to rock. When the Titans get back to Earth, Raven quickly does the same to them.

The next thing each of the Titans see is their own personal nightmares. Shadow versions of themselves who torment and kill their loved ones. Finally the Titans revolt and kill their shadow selves.

Eventually the Titans break free and destroy Trigon and the Earth is set back to normal with everyone else on Earth unaware of exactly what happened.

You can see another synopsis of the storyline here...
http://www.titanstower.com/source/libin ... index.html

Now, what I propose is that the everyone on Earth is still living out their nightmares. In fact, the stories we've read the past 21 years are really versions of each of the characters' nightmares. That explains the inconsistencies of the characters and we could even say Trigon took over Earth-2 as well.

Sooooo... What we have is a new mini-series that shows the heroes breaking free and uniting to defeat Trigon and Raven.

On the negative side, we've got 21 years of continuity that was all a dream. On the bright side, we can learn from what's worked and what hasn't for the past 21 years and start from (nearly) scratch.

Isn't that the same basic argument that a segment of Trekkies use to argue that Kirk never died. He's still alive in the Nexus because the whole bit we saw on that planet that led to Kirk's death was, in fact, part of Picard's fevered Nexus dream?

Or something confusing like that?

Either way, I'd be happy to see your suggestion done right. But I think it would kill the line if they did it. Look at what happened to Spider-Man. The clone saga nearly killed that series as people walked away in droves. When Dallas pulled the all-a-dream stunt, even their core audience felt betrayed and walked away in droves. It never recovered. Heck, look at what's all happened just with these little reboots that screw up continuity and how angrily people react to that.

I can't see it happening.

But that doesn't mean I would like to see it happen.

Trekkers. That's a Trekker theory. Trekkies say that every ship on every series should be called Enterprise and every captain should evoke Kirk. Trekkers try to figure out how to get the actual Kirk himself into every series. :)

And what's the term for people who can actually differentiate between Trekker and Trekkie? :)

You see, I thought Trekker was just a Trekkie with delusions of social acceptability :)

Well, then, what's the name for those of us who ignore all continuity that doesn't square up with the outstanding "Kirk is still alive" series of books "authored" by William Shatner (really Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens :) )

Cause that's where I fall.

Yeh it's kinda like "sequential artist" rather than "cartoonist", or when you buy a plain yellow dishtowel that's marked "pastoral mustard".

So what do ya'll call the tubes that Scotty was always running around in to fix things in Engineering?

I think they're pipes. I've heard others call them tubes. The true Trekophiles call them "Jeffery Tubes" or some such.

I found a quote from Gene Roddenbery that says he created the term "Trekkie" and rejected "Trekker", so for all you "Trekkers" out there... you're all a bunch of Fake Fan Scum :P

It is, if I was writing a formal insult.

It was funnier the way I wrote it.

:P

And if you spell it backwards, you get "stunmum". An equally funny looking word.

Stolen from somewhere:

1. Trekkies are generally older, usually have at least one "family" photo which includes some type of VW automobile, and don't mind being called "Trekkers."
2. Trekkers usually love a good argument, have never been in a "sit-in" ever though they think it would be cool, and hate being called "Trekkies."
3. Trekkies enjoy putting together Star Trek models of phasers and starships.
4. Trekkers have the latest Omnipedia on CD and get irritated when they can't find a starship class in 3-D rendering.
5. Trekkies know that the best defense is a strong offense.
6. Trekkers know that the best defense is a Janeway Phaser Rifle 2000.
7. Trekkies bore you with endless stories about how their first con was a real con.
8. Trekkers bore you with recitations of endless continuity errors, academic-like articles about the application of the Prime Directive in the Real World, and multiple theories about the childhood traumas of Star Trek characters.
9. Trekkies know that space is the "final frontier."
10. Trekkers know that space is divided up into a series of quadrants, but they're not quite sure how that figures into navigation charts.
11. Trekkies have a pair of Spock ears, or have at least once in their lives pulled at the tops of their own ears and tried that eyebrow trick.
12. Trekkers...hmmm, sorry. No difference here.
13. Finally, when confronted with someone who's really hard to categorize, you can just say, "What do you think about Star Trek?" If the response is:
14. "Which one?" -- Trekker
15. "Love it!" -- Trekkie
