Upcoming Salvo Records Slade reissues include Slade in Flame, Nobody's Fool, and a 2CD Slade B-sides set. The 2CD B-sides set will contain 40 tracks, many never before released on CD. Salvo Records is a British company that specialises in reissues of classic albums. Awesome! Can't wait to hear more!!

I know that the individual albums now contain bonus tracks, but the big surprise is the B-sides 2-CD set. That should be a real treat, as Slade's '70s output was really strong.

I've heard the remasters of Alive! & Slayed? from this series. Alive was really good, although some of the bonus material could have sounded better. Sonically Slayed? was disapointing.

Slade was my first favorite band, and the more I think about it, the more I'm convinced they rival or even better The Sex Pistols as the greatest UK band of the '70s.

My vote for greatest UK 70's band would be either Bowie & the Spiders or Mott The Hoople.

But Bowie was a solo artist, The Spiders was a concept like Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

We'd almost have to split the '70s into Pre-Punk and Post-Punk. Apples and oranges?

You've got a point. But it all boils down to rock.

I hear your point, but don't quite agree. Mick Ronson was responsable for very close to 50% of the Ziggy era Bowie music. Bowie wrote & sang 'em, but Ronson did the arrangements & (uncredited) much of the in studio production. It's said that especially with Alladinsane Bowie just showed up to do the vocals.

I know Ronson contributed heavily to Ziggy Stardust, but the actual concept band Spiders From Mars was dissolved before Aladdinsane AFAIK. I didn't know that Ronson contributed so much to the Aladdinsane album. When Bowie first met Ronson, he said, "I've found my Jeff Beck!"

That's not correct. The tour AFTER Alladin's release was when DB made the famous "this is the last show we'll ever do" announcement. Ronson was also fully involved in the album after A.S., Pinups. Other then replacing drummer Woody Woodmansy with Aynsley Dunbar, Pinups was also a Spiders album. He didn't dissolved the band until after cutting a few demos for Diamond Dogs.

Keyboard player Mike Garson still works with DB to this day. It's a shame the way DB treated Ronson. Ironically the whole Glam thing was originally DB's idea, & Ronson was said to be resistant to it. As history shows, Ronson never left glam, though obviously DB did. Ronson is incredibly under appreciated, & he just kept getting better up until his death. I saw the Yiu Orta tour with Ian Hunter & the sloppiness that MR was known for (live only, Ronson was NEVER sloppy in the studio) was gone. Note Ronson was also largely responsible for Ian Hunter's early post Mott sound. Ronson & Hunter worked together off & on for the remainder of Ronson's all too short life.

If you haven't watched the DB Pennebaker DVD of the Hammersmith show, put it on & see if your eyes follow Ronson or Bowie. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Bowie fan (at least from "David Bowie" aka "Space Oddity" through "Scary Monsters" & then again with Tin Machine) but the Spiders were not ONLY DB. Tony Visconti also played a large role in the studio albums.

Sorry for the rant, but if I was to name my #1 influence as an electric guitar player it would be Ronson (followed by Andy Powell & Ted Turner of Wishbone Ash).

I don't think your post is a rant, it's important to get the facts straight. Yes, I've seen the Hammersmith show, but it was long ago in the cinema. At that time I didn't own the Bowie catalog, so I just assumed it was a tour to promote the Ziggy Stardust album, and that's the way I remember it.
