Originally Atlantic Records was called "The House That Ruth Built" in honor of Ruth Brown.

Does anyone know if the DVD is exactly the same program as the PBS special that aired a few weeks ago? Any extra content?

I'm pretty sure it's the same show, Jim ~ PBS's website is offering this same DVD as part of their "American Masters" series and lists it as 120 minutes long, the same length as the TV programme. (No mention of extras on the DVD.)

Rhino has a description of this DVD up at their website now. No mention of extras, but it does confirm that this is the same documentary which was shown on PBS:
>> "The Atlantic Sound," which sprang from the small record label Ertegun co-founded in 1947, was a revolutionary new genre, single-handedly influencing the future direction of contemporary music. Ertegun wrote music, produced music, defined careers, and changed lives. Atlantic Records: The House That Ahmet Built follows Ertegun's remarkable career and its impact on the world of popular music, while offering an insider's look at the recording industry from its beginnings to the present. This original PBS documentary features rare, private and classic clips, as well as performances and studio sessions with such Atlantic recording artists as Solomon Burke, Ray Charles, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Aretha Franklin, Mick Jagger, Kid Rock, Ben E. King, Led Zeppelin, & many more. <<
