86 Voltz Dead Girl One Shot (new one-shot by my buddy Mike Oeming)
Captain America #5 (as i've mentioned, probably ad nauseum, the best Cap I've read in over 15 years)
Dampyr Devils Son #1 (new vampire series)
Day Of Vengeance #1 (it can't be worse than OMAC and it features Ragman, probably my favorite c-level character)
Easy Way #1 (don't even know what this is but IDW generally puts out quality horror books)
Eric Reds Containment #4 (this is a better premise than a book)
Filler GN (by the guys who did TEENAGERS FROM MARS)
Jon Sable Freelance Bloodline #1 (i really liked Sable back in the day... curious to see if it still holds up)
Karney #1 (this sounds cool)
New Avengers #5 (dog help me but i'm enjoying this series!)
Supreme Power #16 (i'm no fan of JMS but this series is good)
Ultimate Secret #2 (the first issue was surprisingly good)
X-Men Phoenix Endsong #5 (enjoyable with gorgeous art)

Dark Horse:
Conan and the Jewels of Gwahlur #1(of 3): P. Craig Russell
Dynamite Ent.:
Red Sonja, She-Devil with a Sword #0: For .25 cents, I'll give it a look see.

New Avengers #5: Another posing cover, but we'll see how the inside looks.
Spectacular Spider-Man #27: Last Issue, this means I've completely dropped Spider-man until something readable comes out.
Top Cow:
Hunter Killer #2: Liked the first issue enough to come back for the second.

Hah! You fool! Do you not realize that New Avengers counts as a Spider-Man title!?

Database, just curious... you seem pretty forgiving of (what i consider) bad Spider-Man stories/writers. That being said, in your opinion, who are the worst (published) Spidey writers? Worst Spidey issues/arcs?

We'll see if it does, but at least it's not Amazing Spider-man(The sad thing is, I enjoyed the beginning of Stracynski's run on the title but have really not enjoyed it lately).

I liked the bit in New Avengers where Spider-Man showed his experience of how things work in the Marvel Universe...
The whole "if we are flying to the Savage Land...there will be a crash involved" thing made me laugh

I think JMS' run on Spider-Man shark jumped when he had Gwen Stacy boinking Norman Osborn, that was the point where fans turned on him.
Some brief notes:
S/B 19 - *shrug* Didn't suck outright but didn't rock either. Nice shot of Thanos... I mean Lex Luthor at the end. She needs a better costume and this book needed a little more plot and less navel gazing.
Acts of Vengence 1 - OK, it is now official: There are Two Bill Willinghams, the one who writes bad Bat Family stories and the one who writes gems like Fables, early Elementals, and this. Heaven help me, but I loved it and I loved Detective Chimp. I loved seeing Captain Marvel near the end, I loved the dialog, I loved Detective Chimp's t-shirt. Against my better judgement this one is going to go high on my recommend list.

Losers 23: God I love this book. intelligent dialogue, cool espionage sequences and some questions answered. Plus we have a nice set up involving a heist, an anti-hesit team, renegade russians and american military soldiers, stolen urnanium and lots of cool moments. Loved how they picked Cougar for the stealthy mission...just good old fashioned action and espionage. And a GORGEOUS cover by JOCK...10/10
24 One shot : Stories: Another cool one shot featuring the 24 gang by IDW. This one is set right before season 3. jack is undercover with the Salazar brothers while Chechen terrorists interrupt a deal...fans of the show will enjoy this..very cool...9/10
Punisher 20: A very twisted little tale that shows us the "origin" of Nick the mobster....yeesh Ennis is sick in the head. Compelling and yet this arc just isnt cliking like the first year and a half has...We'll see how it turns out...6/10
Sleeper 11: Holden pulls some double crosses and gets some payback but things dont turn out as well as planned. The ending has its share of shocking moments...Im curious as to how everything will turn out and hopefully all the bastards get whats coming to them...8/10
Sable 1: Beautifull art by Grell and some classic Sable..its been too long. Very cool set up involving assasins, mobsters and lots of old friends. I hope this is the beginning of a string of Sable tales by Grell..excellent stuff...9/10
Ultimate secret 2: More cool scifi by Ellis and some great scenes. Loved the Reed Richards dialogue/theories on alien life and the ending was great as well. Mcniven is in top form as well..he could definetly replace Hitch on Ultimates based on the strength of this issue...9/10
Richard Dragon 12: Very dissapointing..after a great set up in issue 11..the conclusion falls flat. What kind of a cop out ending was that? Very poor...its a shame I had high hopes for this series...4/10
Batman 639: Ok I have to admit Im into the whole red hood storyline..Batman investigates a bunch of mystical contacts to see how Jason could have indeed been resurrected. Lots of cool moments and Mahnke is great on the art chores...very compelling...Im hooked to see where this all leads to...8/10
Human target 21: Im gonna miss this series..what a mind fuck! Mistaken identities, personality meltdown, disguises..who is who? Milligan is brilliant and its a shame we did not get to see more adventures of Chris Chance. Mind you the ending was amazing...it leaves you guessing...very Hitchcock...very smart...10/10
Captain America 5: Lots of cool WW2 action this issue..and more clues as to what is going on...Great Cap story..i wonder what that secret file contains...hmm...Loved the Invaders in russia...Brubaker is doing a great job on Cap...I hope the conclusion delivers...10/10
Man my weeks are getting bigger and bigger..!

John Sable 1: Yay!!! You don't realize how much you miss something until it comes back. Good story, loved the ending. Wish IDW books weren't premium priced because I can't afford to get them regularly at $3.99 a pop.

-Punisher #20 -- good stuff with a seriously demented origin story for one of the charcters, but one big problem... no Punisher and some of the other characters brought back last issue received no air time. 6/10... this will read a lot better when collected.
-Doom Patrol #11 -- ehhh. Nothing awful about all this, but this book has developed a seriously leisurely approach to plotting... and it's not even write-for-the-trade slow plotting, where there's a sense that this will all come to a head in another couple of issues. None of the many sub-plots really seem to have advanced more than a couple of seconds this issue... it's practically blind-and-you-miss-it plot development. Even the main plot concerning the origin of The Chief seems ill-defined at this point... at the end, I know he's in danger, but don't have the slightest clue way, or even if it's completely deserved based on a lot of the amoral attitudes he's displayed so far. 4/10.
-Ultimate Secret #2 -- ain't read it yet.
Ordered from Amazon.com
-Authority: Kev -- total fluff from Ennis, but wickedly funny in places 7/10
-Queen & Country: Operation Saddlebags -- ain't read it yet
-Samurai Executioner #4 -- ain't read it yet
-Tom Strong's Terrific Tales Vol. 2 -- read some of it, and it's horribly uneven. Final score will probably be something like 5/10.

Made doubly funny when, upon being asked by Iron Man where he landed, Wolverine replies, "Crashed.".

I will get
Doom Patrol 11
Flash 221
a couple books for the kids, I think we missed the last TTitans GO.
And I am looking for a Trade. The last one I got (on a recommendation from a JBFer) was the Return of Hawkman. (I got a Richard Strong trade too, really liked that one).
Anyone want to suggest a somewhat current Trade that would be worth my hard earned 20 bucks?
ps. thanks for putting out the word that IMWAN was a fun happy place to visit and discuss.

Steven C - I love the Hypno toad avatar!
Todd H - If you enjoyed the Return ot Hawkman - I suggest the next 2 JSA trades as well: Fair Play and Stealing Thunder...more great superhero action.

Yeah, I liked that one cuz I really dig Hawkman. Or at least I loved Kater Hol, and I was slamming the current reincarnating version. I thought the Egypt adn Black Adam angle were cool as well.
Thanks,
T

Todd, as JV points out, all JSA trades are good, reliable reads. The JSA/JLA 'Virtue & Vice' TPB is also a recommended buy.
Depending on your tastes, for non-superhero fair I would recommend 'Y: The Last Man' without reservation.
Cheers and welcome to IMWAN!

I have read all of Y; the last man. It is the best book on the market, in my opinion. I love it, and cannot believe how compelling the stories are, and how convincing the cliff hangers are.
Just first rate stuff.

I read the first trade of Y and wondered what all the fuss was about.
Transmetropolitan, now THAT was a fine science fiction book.... Hunter S. Thompson in the 25th Century....

Todd H - Hawkman is prominent in the next JSA trade: Fair Play so you may enjoy that quite a bit as well.
If your a fan of Y the last man I suggest the Runaways digests (Volume 1) from Marvel: the kids of a group of supervillains run away from their evil parents - great dialogue and cliffhagners from Vaughn.
If your looking for some other interesting Vertigo trades:
Swamp Thing Bad Seed by Diggle and Breccia - a very cool horror tale that brings Swamp thing back to his roots. A lot of cool DCU guest stars and great dialogue and action.
Losers Ante Up: by Diggle and Jock - a CIA unit goes rogue as they are betrayed by corrupt factions within the US government. An intelligent big budget version of the Ateam - snipers, stealth bombers, machine guns, drugs, guns and lots of explosions - some of the best action/espionage on the stands.
Both the vertigo trades are cheap too..6 issues for $9.95.
tell us what you pick up and what you think!!

What's he up to after Adam Strange?
