I hope this post can start a trend: to get people to periodically post a nice,
single panel of Ditko artwork.

Let's begin with the opening panel of "Time Machine" from Charlton
Premiere #4. This one takes up about two-thirds of the first page. It's the
best time tunnel sequence that I can remember ever seeing. I especially
like the de-evolution of the flying machines: Space ships to whirly crafts
to jet planes to airplanes to hot air balloons to... BIRDS! Likewise, the
buildings, streets, people, etc. work very well going backwards in time.

I've been reading a lot of old Charltons lately, and here's one I came across the other day, from Haunted #4. I love how he expresses the emotional tension visually in this one:

Yeah, I'm cheating because it's more than one panel. But this is one of my favorite Ditko sequences ever... Ditko's veiled commentary on Stan Lee from Mysterious Suspense #1:

I don't have a link to it, but he did a story for Charlton called "Spacious Rooms for Rent" that shows a boarding house being broken up into its constituent rooms and all the rooms being sent off into space. I remember that image boggling my young mind when I first saw it.

And I don't know of another panel that he drew in quite that way either - the positioning and musculature are very atypical of his work in general. Still my favourite comic book, since I first read it at age nine or so.

Let's see it one more time. Spidey's finest hour. Love, love, love that panel and that comic.
