Quote: Brian Wilson, The Beach Boys Co-Founder and Singer, Dies at 82 The music icon helped define the "California sound" with the American rock 'n' roll boy band he formed with his family members and a friend.
Brian Wilson, the pop music genius and singer who co-founded the Beach Boys, has died. He was 82.
The musician's family announced his death on Wednesday, June 11 in an Instagram post featuring a photo of the star.
"We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved father Brian Wilson has passed away," the statement read. "We are at a loss for words right now. Please respect our privacy at this time as our family is grieving. We realize that we are sharing our grief with the world. Love & Mercy." https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/art ... 47807.html

So much great, great music. "Absolute legend" doesn't even do him justice. The Pet Sounds box is an absolute gem and a great way to break down a classic album. Hard to believe at one point the Beach Boys were the band I'd seen live most often (that has since changed drastically).
Not sure if I've ever mentioned this here, but about 44-45 years ago, I was at a girlfriend's house, and there was a Beach Boys special on a local station. If I recall, it was mainly about the making of the then-current album. There was a scene where they were standing around Brian at the piano, and the producer (I assume) said, "Are you guys ready to record the harmonies for the chorus?" Someone replied that Brian hadn't written them yet, and he said, "Oh, that's right. Um, how about this?" He proceeded to play the full chorus with all the harmonies, and then they all sang them straight back. Unreal to see.
I did get to see Brian once or twice with the Beach Boys, then solo once or twice.
RIP, sir, and thank you.

Devastated. A harmonic titan who inspired and challenged so many of my favorite artists.

The most beautiful voice. So many songs that defined pop culture. Two of the greatest albums ever made in Pet Sounds and SMiLE. I can't even imagine what the music of the last 60 years would have sounded like without him. Rest well, Brian.

It will take me a while to articulate how crushed I'm feeling right now.

Absolutely devastating news.
I knew it wouldn't be long once Melinda died.
Farewell Brian - no more voices in your head, nothing but the voices and prayers of all of us fans who loved your music.
Happy that you are with Melinda and the rest of your family.
Thank you for so much great, great music.
You were a great musical genius...

Definitely a huge loss to music, with a major impact on the overall culture as well; superlatives - writing and singing - that are top class, and someone who battled all his life to overcome his challenges.
RIP, Brian, and thanks for the music.

His music made everyone smile. RIP

Farewell to another musical giant. Rest in peace, Brian. Thank you for all the wonderful songs--so many gems--you've left us.

Just listen to those control room recordings on The Pet Sound Sessions as he directed the backing tracks, the vocals, rearranged lyrics, etc. especially on Wouldn't It Be Nice and God Only Knows. Genius at work. Incredible. R.I.P.
