there is TV commercial for amazon prime being shown right now that uses chicago's '25 or 6 to 4" as its song.

does amazon know what '25 or 6 to 4' is about?

Bannings: If you're not nice
Quote:
[Robert] Lamm said the song is about trying to write a song in the middle of the night. The song's title is the time at which the song is set: 25 or 26 minutes before 4 a.m., phrased as, "twenty-five or [twenty-]six [minutes] to four [o’clock]," (i.e. 03:35 or 03:34). Because of the unique phrasing of the song's title, "25 or 6 to 4" has been interpreted to mean everything from a quantity of illicit drugs to the name of a famous person in code.

LSD 25 was a very popular drug in the early 70's.

and the story i heard is that it was either 25 minutes or 26 minutes to 4 o'clock in the morning.

and from what i have heard, when one is doing LSD time kind of loses meaning.

but i am the old hippie, so i may be either wrong, or i forgot!

I'll admit I never could figure out what the heck the song (lyrics) were about. It may well be about an acid trip:
Quote:
Searching for the break of day
Searching for something to say
Dancing lights against the sky
Giving up, I close my eyes
Sitting cross-legged on the floor
25 or six to four
Staring blindly into space
Getting up to splash my face
Wanting just to stay awake
Wondering how much I can take
Should have tried to do some more
25 or six to four
Feeling like I ought to sleep
Spinning room is sinking deep
Searching for something to say
Waiting for the break of day
25 or six to four
25 or six to four

But it works well for the ad:

I read the same thing that Robert Lamm, the writer said about the song, which Linda cited above.

Blame it on unusual phrasing.

This isn’t the first time it’s been used for a commercial or movie (I know it was in The Flash).

At least they didn’t use the abysmal 1986 remake, which was truly an abomination.

Not fun fact: Peter Cetera was in agony recording the song, because he had been attacked at a Dodgers game and he still had his jaw wired together when he did the vocal.

Saw the commercial the other day and it works fine in this context. Always nice to hear it any day.
