Bug:
If Dave Davies did nothing more than create the slash-and-burn power chords of the Kinks' "You Really Got Me" he'd earn a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. As it is, the younger Davies brother has accomplished much more. His first studio album in over 20 years finds Ray's frequently overshadowed sibling reviving that rather charming '70s device, the concept album - the plot here revolving around extraterrestrial visitation and brain implantation. Davies brings the idea of benign aliens a little closer in a collection that recalls some of the best trends of the '60s and '70s. He uses a rock template that harkens back to post-Tommy Who ("The Lie"), Mott the Hoople ("Whose Fooling Who"), and Deep Purple ("It Ain't over 'Till It's Done"), sounding rather anachronistic as a result. The songs are engaging and show Davies to be a writer of considerable skill and wit, but they're somewhat stuck in the way-back machine.

Kinked:
Kinked is a compilation of Dave Davies' work from the late '90s and early 2000s. A lot of this disc features selections from the 1998 collection Unfinished Business: Dave Davies Kronikles 1963-1998, which itself contained a bunch of re-recordings from the late '90s of classic Kinks tunes. That accounts for a little under half of this 15-track collection; the rest contains selections from the 2000 live album Rock Bottom: Live at the Bottom Line (four tracks) and 2002's studio album Bug (two cuts), plus a couple of relative rarities -- "When the Wind Blows (Emergency)," which was written for the End Hunger Network in 1997, and a cover of George Harrison's "Give Me Love, Give Me Peace on Earth," which was for a 2003 Harrison tribute album -- and a brand new tune, "God in My Brain," which was written and recorded in 2006, after Davies recovered from a serious stroke.

Fractured Mindz:
Dave Davies is indeed a true rock 'n' roll original. Originally released in 2007 "Fractured Mindz" was Dave's first release after his stroke several years earlier. Take a musical journey with The Kinks' guitarist Dave Davies with stops for fame and fortune, sibling rivalry and stroke recovery. Since he was the legendary wildman of the Kinks -- the man responsible for their proto-heavy metal guitars, the battling brother of Ray -- it's been easy to pigeonhole Dave Davies as just a hard rocker but anybody who paid close attention to his solo work would know that he has a spiritual, even mystical, dimension to his music which shines through clearly on this classic Dave Davies album.
