I know that Rock has been shown interacting with DC's superhero universe on a number of occasions...but he was originally supposed to be at least a somewhat realistic war comics character. Hard to see making a blockbuster with him that would make sense. I could see him appearing as a guest star in some DC cartoons.

The days of Rock being realistic are long gone. His last comic series was him versus zombies.

Berlin, 1944. The Nazis are besieged on all fronts by the Allied forces. Defeat is inevitable. But Hitler and his team of evil scientists attempt a last-ditch effort that may turn the tide of the war and rewrite history itself: a serum that resurrects their dead soldiers, stronger than they were in life, and sends them back into the battlefield.

Now Sgt. Frank Rock and Easy Company have been dispatched into enemy territory to face off against the strangest, most horrific enemies they’ve ever encountered: Nazi zombies!

Sgt. Rock and Easy Company are behind enemy lines, armed to the teeth, and ready to go up against the strangest-and deadliest-enemies they’ve ever encountered: zombies, and a whole lot of ’em! Strap in, soldiers, it’s you against the world…of the dead!

Horror icon Bruce Campbell and comics legend Eduardo Risso bring you a terror-soaked Sgt. Rock tale like no other!

Collects DC Horror Presents: Sgt. Rock vs. The Army of the Dead #1-6.

I think one of the things I enjoyed most about Sgt. Rock was how Kubert balanced the reality of the second world war and story telling for a young adult audience through the lens of the comics code. So much of the stylistic images in the comics might work in a movie setting, but I don't how you could connect those images together in a way that makes sense without showing the realities of war. Which isn't Sgt. Rock at that point.

All probably true. Maybe full-on, wild-and-wooly comic book heroics is the only way to go with Sgt. Rock in today's world.

I'd rather see it as a gritty, realistic war movie, along the lines of "Fury" that Brad Pitt made. I considered that one an honorary Sgt. Rock movie (although they were a tank company, not infantry).

I think there's an appetite for heroic WWII stuff. It could be a franchise, because Easy Company faced one challenge after another.

Sgt Rock Two: Ice Cream Soldier.

Sgt Rock Three: Bulldozer
