So, what do y'all think so far? These vids make it look like they are up my alley.

I like her reviewing style, but none of those would entice me to read mainstream superhero comics again. I'm officially too old for the hobby. ;)

It's Ultimate DC I guess. None of it looks bad, but none of it makes me want to read it.

I'm officially too old to watch YouTube videos about comics.

I couldn't get through the first video; the book might be okay, but I couldn't get past the presentation to see.

A lot of them really are hard to watch and/or listen to.

She does a lot of silver age reviews that are a lot of fun. She loves old Lois Lane comics in particular.

Would love to read your impressions if you are amenable to the idea.

I figure I'm the problem, but I am glad you agree!

We're both part of the problem!

(I do YouTube reviews myself, so I'm probably hard to watch and/or listen to too. Oh well!)

Sorry, I didn't know that. No doubt I would love your videos. But it seems I have a problem.

Doot is, as you'd imagine, difficult to listen to. The Man In Orange, however, is excellent...if only he would do some more videos... :)

Well, I don't review comics.

YET.

All that said, I still agree with you. Which makes me a hypocrite. Which I'm okay with.

I think they're all good...but I chose that one because it is particularly good.

You should review comics, though...if you only had the time to do so.

I don't think you're a hypocrite, I think you are trying to set an example by providing quality content and showing that it can be done, then the other 8 billion new videos posted each day suck as usual.

In a vain attempt to get back on topic- does anyone have any (written) opinions on DC's Absolute Universe line?
As someone who loves Batman, I skipped the series because, to me, this doesn't sound like a Batman title. This is the solicitation for the first issue:
Quote:
Without the mansion…without the money…without the butler…what’s left is the Absolute Dark Knight!

That, combined with this Hulk-physique redesign of the character, failed to spark any interest from me. It just seems like a gimmick no one was looking for.

Of course, it's been a huge seller, so as usual I am waaaay out of touch. Though I suspect it's a case of fanboys being enticed by a shiny new object and in 5 years the line will be cancelled and it will be a footnote. But I'm cynical.

I do agree that most comic YouTubers suck. They seem to either seem to just repeat the story without any additional insight or critique is based solely whatever extremist social-political ideology they are cursed with. I still love comics and I’m happy when I find the good ones.

Loving comics (I do!) has nothing to do with bad YouTube videos. It seems a bit of a non-sequitur to follow a dismissal of YouTube videos with a declaration of love for comics.

I will write something more detailed later, but I was in the same boat as you when I saw the preview art. However, I really liked Absolute Batman. I liked Absolute Superman, but not nearly as much. Absolute Wonder Woman on the other hand, that I freakin’ loved.

Apparently this new universe was created by Darkseid somehow and the heroes here don’t have the early advantages that made them great. Bruce Wayne doesn’t have wealth. Kal El’s parents weren’t scientists/social elites. The Amazons were exiled by the Gods and Diana was fostered in a hellish land by the witch Circe. All three overcome these obstacles, though - they are heroes through and through, and not having the early advantages did not hold them back. In the end, they still become Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman - different versions, but recognizable and with the same motivations and hearts.

So far, I am digging it and will get the second issues.
