Recorded in 1971, the album was Hawkwind’s first true masterwork and saw them fully realise their unique brand of Space Rock. It was greeted with acclaim upon its release in October 1971 and was the band’s first Top 20 hit. The record was subsequently and deservedly hailed as one of the Greatest Hundred British Rock albums of all time by Classic Rock magazine.

This limited edition deluxe box set comprises 2CDs of a new remaster of the original album, along with new stereo mixes by Stephen W Tayler, including the session out-takes of ‘Hog Farm’ and ‘Kiss of the Velvet Whip’. Also included are new mixes of the legendary singles ‘Silver Machine’ and ‘Seven by Seven’. The set also includes a region free Blu-ray disc which features Stephen W Tayler’s stunning new 5.1 surround sound mixes of the album and bonus tracks including ‘Silver Machine’ and ‘Seven by Seven’.

The set is completed with a 68-page illustrated book with new essay and a reproduction of the rare Hawkwind Log Book making this box set the definitive release and this legendary album.

Is it just me, or is the price of this a little high?

Not just you. I am pretty much on auto-buy when it comes to Hawkwind, and this is such a great album of theirs! But major pass on this at this price..

Yeah, very disappointing. In Canada, it's $100 for the set. My limit would be $60.

A far limit (generous as well IMO)... for me $40 would be pushing it - considering how generally inexpensive Atomhenge (and Cherry Red in general) typically is. Also the Space Ritual - 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition from last year (10 CD/1 Blu) goes for roughly $120 depending ($110 currently at Amazon US). Oh well.

I think I'll play it today (drive the wife crazy).

Not a Hawkwind fan, but how does Ian Anderson do it reasonably with JT box sets and seemingly everyone else soaks the buyers?
