Or more precisely, when did he lose them?

I think the answer to both may be Flash #175

That isn't really MM, that's Lex Luthor painted green!

MM displayed quite an array of powers in his early appearances include "molecular hypnosis" ( basically telekinesis ).

Huh.

The Sub-Mariner also displayed some weird powers in the early 60's. In one issue, for example, he had "electric eel" powers and could store and discharge electricity.

It also seems to me that virtually every early Silver Age hero was a judo expert! There are all sorts of scenes where people like Mr. Fantastic and Giant-Man use judo on opponents. A lot of that judo expertise seems to have disappeared over time!

Yup. He could also puff out his body like a blowfish.

The Human Torch exhibited all sorts of strange powers in the early Kirby adventures ( in F.F. and then in Johnny's solo appearances )
He created a "cold flame" flyswatter ( basically solid flame that didn't burn anyone )

He could control any flame within a few feet

He had some sort of infra-red "glow" power for a while too
...and I was never really sure how his flight-power worked.

When the Mad Thinker resurrected the Original Human Torch who battled Johnny, the OHT created a tornado via "heat-inversion."

Thor's hammer could do all kinds of stuff. Warp space, absorb magnetic currents, shoot the Super-skrull into space...

Spider-Man ( early Ditko/Lee ) used his power of "chest-expansion" to bust some chains.

Iron Man used to coax new behavior out of his armor by changing transistors around.

The Hulk could jump so high it appeared as though he was flying, but there are issues showing him turning in mid-air. I just imagined that he sort of swam on air like Pietro.

What about Man-Bat's "crime-sense" tied into his sonar?

True. Many of whom cite Captain America as their trainer. The only established hero I remember getting a crash-course in self-defense from the good Captain was Tony Stark ( in the Layton-era Iron Man. )

I was going to say Professor Xavier, but that would have been silly...

It seemed during the 70's every so often we would see a scene of Captain America giving one of the heroes a few lessons while staying at Avengers Mansion. I often wondered which hero was his best student. I mean could Jarvis take out Tony Stark?

Which really begs the question: who'd win in a fight - Jarvis, or Alfred.

:)

I think they would each pull a gun on the other (Alfred doesn't have the same issues with guns as Batman) then both agree that it was silly. Then they would either a) have a whiskey together or b) get back to work (they're both pretty busy guys).

Remember that Alfred's been dead and then came back as the super-villain known as the Outsider.

Wait. That was pre-Crisis.

Are we talking normal Jarvis or Ultimate Jarvis?

...never mind...

Alfred was also a super hero called the Eagle... (after accidentally getting shot by one of the gadgets in the museum portion of the Batcave)

umm..that was pre-Crisis as well.

I think Ultimate Jarvis could take Alfred any day. Or at least creep him out so bad that Al'd run away screaming.

Manservant Crisis #1, shipping this week :)

Ultimate Jarvis would probably make a pass at Alfred. Alfred would then beat the living hell out of him.
