Oh well...at least being ahead of the Devil Rays is something!
P.S. I hope Renny put something in the water of the Indians who are coming to town with a good record of their own, as well as bringing a returning Trot Nixon with them.
P.P.S. I know that the Red Sox regularly pull out front like this and that the Yankees are notorious slow starters, but this is almost uncharted waters now and it kind of looks like the whole Yankees organization is imploding. Regardless, it's always fun to watch King George having his tantrums.
P.P.P.S. Roger Clemens had better be able to win every start!
P.P.P.P.S. What happens when Posada and Jeter cool off a bit?

And my Phillies are finally kicking ass-hopefully Howard is on his way back to scaring pitchers-looked like it yesterday.

Hey You Guys,
You know, my Giants and A's aren't exactly settin' the world on fire either. It really has been fun watching the Indians lately. It's nice to see the young pitcher, Faustino Carmona, doing so well. I remember when he went through that period, I think it was last year (his first?), where he went through that tough stretch where he pitched beautifully and then would lose games in the 8th and 9th innings.
The other team I've been spending a goodly portion of time watching on my Extra Innings package this season is the Mets. I've been fascinated with watching them for some reason. Everytime I see them, I keep thinking of Federico because I know he's watching them too.
I've also been watching the Red Sox when there's a good matchup.
Hang in there John G & Jimbo. Hey Linda, who do you follow (if you're into baseball? Do you go to any Marlins or Devil Rays games at all?
Other than that, I will always go to a game where there's a good pitching matchup going on. I did get a chuckle out of the brouhaha between Dontrelle Willis and the Met bench during the week.
I still love Ichiro and Vladimir Guerrero. I'll be curious to see if Ichiro is in another uniform by the trade deadline or not. I have my doubts he's still going to be with the Mariners much longer.

I believe Linda is a Mets fan.
It would seem the Yankees suddenly got old this year. That outfield looks ancient out there (Matsui/ Damon/ Abreau). Add a hobbled Giambi, an average Cano, plus that pitching staff, its no wonder their way off their game. Can you imagine that Scott Proctor walked in 2 runs yesterday? Unheard of in Yankee Land.
Even Torre gets booed now.

Let's Go Mets! It would be nice to close Shea Stadium with a couple of Championships. I think they're gonna do just that.

Yet another reason, as if we needed another, to appreciate Linda.
I have been a little anxious about the Mets' performance this year but I read in the Times today that without Pedro, with injuries to Alou, Valentin, and (and lately the rest of the outfield) with Delgado and Wright in a slump the team is actually a game ahead of their pace at this time last year.
I feel a little better but as a fan since '67 I am waiting for the next disaster to strike.
Still...Let's Go Mets!

I have this uneasy feeling it's 1965 all over again.
From 1949-1964, the Yankees appeared in the World Series 14 times in 16 years. In 1965, they finished 77-85, 6th in the AL. The didn't make it back to the playoffs until 1976.

LOVE the baseball chatter! My A's are once again struggling in May, but since we've torn through the summer every year for the last six, I have hope. And my seats this year are amongst some serious hardcore fans, so it's been great.

And the Phils lose-though Howard crushed another one and just missed another. Dobbs also hit another-a 3 run shot in the 9th that made it 5-4. Shame Ryan Madson had to suck again and give up 2 runs in the 9th to make it 5-1. Idiot. Still, a nice comeback for what that's worth.

Oops...don't look now, but it looks like the Yankees are now officially tied for last place! Things have gotten so bad in the Bronx that I almost feel bad for them...ALMOST.

Can the Yankees pull out of that Clemens deal? Its too late to save the season....at least they could save $28M bucks.

If only the Mets would get rid of those ugly-ass black pajama uniforms and return to their traditional blue and orange colors.
(I know I shouldn't be obsessing about such trivial matters, but that's just me).

I agree, but the third colour is basically to be able to sell more licensed clothing and merchandise so I really doubt they'll get rid of it. Switching to mostly the traditional uniforms and making the black version just an occassional thing (the reverse of what they're currently doing) might not be a bad idea, though.
Do you think they'll change the uniforms completely when Citi Field opens?

John G,
Of all of the people on the Yankee team, I really think Matsui is the the most underappreciated one in the lineup. He gets overlooked amongst the Murderer's Row of hitters they have. I'd kill to have him become a Giant or an A. Well, for that matter, I've been dreaming of Ichiro going to either of them as well, but it won't happen. Ichiro will probably end up in a major market.

Unbelievable ~ Benitez has balked twice in the bottom of the 12th, allowing the Mets to tie the game again.
