Two points.

First, I have a fondness for the original Iron Man Suit. And with Tony's abilities, it could be resurrected as a true Hulk Busting type, with Adamantium etc. No streamlining here, could be loaded for bear. I would love to see him (or her) reappear as a mysterious hero.

Second, this version would be cool in a second group of Avengers, filled with classic heroes or classic takes on old heroes.

Mysterious Iron Man
Hank Pym as Giant Man (or the Heck version of Goliath).
Old school flirty Wasp
Cap
Old School Hawkeye
Quicksilver (or his nephew from Young Avengers)
Wanda (needing rehabilitation)

Kind of tapping into the fans who miss the old day and the old type of heroes, Cap sees the need for this group more than ever.

Sorry, I just meant that I was recently talking about old school Avengers in general, not this aspect of them.

Wow, pathetic. Way to attempt to hog the limelight. This thread is way cooler than Hanzos. hah. That other one is WAY too general. I was disoriented. This one is laser focused. In fact, this one is oddly focused on Iron Man having a fat boy costume. It's a little creepy, really. I'm going back to Hanzos.

This is a really interesting idea, to use the original armour as a hugely powerful destructive force. Then it wouldn't seem clunky or outdated, it would be a monster. I like it.

Exactly. No need to sacrifice power for space with this suit.

Any other classic characters you'd like to see, or versions of ones?

Always wondered what was behind the idea of replacing the original Avengers with Cap's kooky quartet? It was a risky move, swapping out an all-star lineup for three new members who were former villains. The Justice League kept things fresh by adding members, but this was a risky move for Stan Lee to make.

I'd like to see a whole team of Iron Men Avengers. Break out the What If? #3.

• use Allen's Gray Armor Mark 1 retrofitted to be the big powerhouse character, muscle character, perhaps fire power
• a shape-changer Iron Man, possibly not Giant Man, but maybe just some weird always reconfiguring armor version: walls, entangling cables, etc.
think sort of like a techno-Mr. Fantastic or like the X-Men's Warlock.
• a stealth armor version, martial artist, possibly even Hawkeye with swords and bows and darts and stuff
• a jet-like speedster; that's mostly his/her whole deal, kind of a Spitfire, maybe with a shield
• a magic user, sort of a Doc Strange lite, who isn't that good magically, but the Iron Suit helps to protect him/her so they are okay

All of these "Iron Men" might actually has some minor abilities of their own without the suits: but nothing enough for those abilities
to help them reach "the big time" of super-heroing. But they all get an Iron Man suit boost than enhances them.

Yeah, the more I think about it, just find new versions of Cap's Kooky Quartet
• Captain America (strong, agile, shield, tactician)
• Quicksilver (super speed)
• Scarlet Witch (hex/magic)
• Hawkeye (marksman)
and boost what they do with Iron Suits: Energy Shield, Jet speed and flying, protect the weak magic user, add stealth and flight to Hawkeye

Then add in the Mark I retro battle/war suit for extra muscle to make the team The Iron Quintet.
