Just read about this today.

Unfortunately the set list by this leg of the tour that was recorded had very little variation and many songs had been dropped.

So, the track listings here are the same.

Seattle, Dallas and San Antonio were used for the album proper, but not these exact versions on discs 3 and 4.

Fresno is a new source.

I don’t need it, but I’ll get it.

How in the world did this wind up on BMG? Does Ozzy's wife now own the entire Black Sabbath catalog...including the albums Ozzy had nothing to do with?

This is a pass for me. I'm good with the original plus the Hammersmith show. Pretty damn lame that they blow it up to 4 discs, have discs 3 and 4 repeat the same songs as discs 1 and 2, and not even throw Country Girl and Slipping Away on as bonus tracks.

Thank you - this is the info I was looking for about the third and fourth discs.

All of the deluxe editions have been BMG.

Those songs you mentioned were not in the set list at this time for all the shows used here.

As the tour went along, “Slipping Away”, “Country Girl”, “Turn up the Night” and “Falling of the Edge of the World” were all dropped.

I’d have loved all of those to be included, but most of the ‘82 gigs had none of those.

Turn Up the Night and Falling Off the Edge of the World were only played at a couple shows, so it wouldn't surprise me if acceptable recordings of those just don't exist. But the bonus discs (as well as the original album) are compiled from various shows, there is no reason why Country Girl and Slipping Away cannot be stuck somewhere on disc 3 or 4...and if the sound for those songs don't "match" the rest of the set, then just tack them on the end of disc 4. If it's a super deluxe, then why not make it a super deluxe instead of comp'ing together two versions of the same thing? Just not much here for CD buyers IMO.

Now for vinyl buyers it could have been a prime release. Original album + Hammersmith show + Portland show....probably would have been a lot of excitement for a release like that for the vinyl community.

As it is, it just seems like another bunch of nothing to me.

Amazon UK price is up. 99.99 GBP. $125. Doubt if the domestic price is $125...but it's likely a $100 box set that goes down to about $80 after "vendor competition." I don't think I would have been interested at a $50 price.

I largely agree, and I find it bizarre they did a scraping the barrel deluxe box of this but not Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules which were only 2 CDs?

Not only that, the H&H was a waste of time reissue featuring the same exact tracks with new mastering.

I’m just waiting for Born Again and the Martin-era albums next.

The work is done, so release them already!

Maybe "Warner Records" is outsourcing reissues to BMG instead of putting them out through Rhino Records?

Or did BMG buy Warner? After all, they haven't been part of the Time Warner conglomerate since 2004 and maybe the owners sold out?

At any rate, pass for me.

I have the deluxe from the early 2010s and that's fine by me. Between that and Live At The Hammersmith Odeon from Rhino, I'm pretty well covered for that tour.

60 USD through Amazon US and 100 GBP through Amazon UK ($124.33 at the current exchange rate as I type this). I wonder why the huge difference? Can't be because Amazon UK is importing copies from the US, as Amazon UK is listing Sanctuary as the label.

I was never very fond of this one (not a fan of Dio singing the Ozzy era songs), so it’s not hard for me to skip this.

What I'd really like to see is an official live album from the Heaven And Hell tour with Bill Ward on drums.

The Heaven In Hartford radio broadcast CD is pretty good and it's great to have a show from that short-lived era on disc.

The write-up for this on Rhino's website says that the remaster for the original mix was done by Andy Pearce.

Despite the weird mix, I've always liked this album.

Ended up being a summation of a short-lived era, but it covered two very important albums by the Mark II and III Sabbath lineups.

Does anyone know if discs 3&4 are different recording dates or are the just remixed versions of discs 1&2.

The remix is fascinating when considering the history of the album. The vocals and drums (especially the drums) are now way up in the mix. The big fallout and breakup largely blamed because of Dio mixing it one way during the day and Iommi/Butler mixing it another way during the night, from the way it was described, it gives the impression that this remix was the way Dio would have had it done in the first place if he had gotten his way. I could see a lot of people strongly preferring the new mix, it does sound a lot cleaner and is much more "modern" due to it being heavily vocal and drum (hence rhythm) oriented. On the negative side, outside of the solos, Iommi's rhythm playing almost seemed buried in spots.

With Wyn Davis doing the remix, a long time collaborator with Dio, it almost seems like Wendy Dio had more to do with this release than the Black Sabbath camp did, although I don't think that is the case as she tends to be fairly vocal about what she is involved with and I don't remember seeing any comments from her about this set.

I don't think I'm a buyer, but from what I've heard this set is much more worthy than most reissues these days which tends to be a non-needed remaster and little to nothing else. I still think, for vinyl buyers, a box that would have been 2 disks remix + 2 disks Hammersmith + 2 disks Portland would have been the way to go. But I will back off of my "big bunch of nothing" earlier comment as the remix is substantial and probably will be desirable to a lot of buyers out there (still think it should be at a better price, $60 at cheaper USA price...$15 per disc...still pretty pricey with just a remix and no unreleased or rare material included).

I had originally typed in the preceding post that I thought all the versions were the same (after only having listened to the first 10 minutes) with "snippets" being changed, but after going back and looking at the press release, Children of the Grave is from Fresno but the original album was from Seattle, San Antonio and Dallas. Not sure how many alternate versions were used for the remix.
