Matt would never do that- it's gotta be Mike Murdock!

In Chip Zdarsky's run Mike is revealed to be an actual person.

This seems out of character for both. Did Steve Englehart write this?

No. Zdarsky is just following on from a thread in the Charles Soule run, which had a bit of reality-alteration going on thanks to a member of the Inhumans who could make thoughts become reality. A thought about the "Mike" disguise caused a real "Mike" to manifest. Then various shenanigans prevented a reversal of said manifestation. This loose end wasn't resolved at the end of Soule's run, hence Zdarsky's picking it up and running with it. From Mike's perspective, he has always existed and he has false memories of growing up alongside his twin brother Matt ... but for Matt and everyone else, Mike only just popped into existence a few months ago. And it's all awesome, so don't be all judgy!

His DD is pretty bad. But he only did five or six issues so maybe he just didn't have time to get comfortable. From what I recall of this scene, Matt and Natasha had been fighting a lot over the course of the Steve Gerber issues leading up to this, and here, Matt is doubling down a bit, being a parody of what Natasha has accused him of being. In a way, it almost seems like Isabella is commenting on the way Gerber wrote the characters, and making fun of it a bit. All imo and iirc, of course.

I was pretty disappointed to hear that Tony Isabella wrote a scene like that. If he's trying to do a semi-parodic takeoff/critique of somebody else's writing, then it might seem a little less objectionable.

From the Doot DD review thread ... for context. Ocean Doot wrote: DAREDEVIL 120
THE CREDITS Tony Isabella, writer Bob Brown, penciller Vince Colletta, inker Petra Golberg, colorist
Well ... the colors are good, at least!
[...]
SOAP OPERA After the airport scene but before Foggy's party, DD and the Widow have a heart-to-heart, wherein Natasha explains that she doesn't like happened to her once she and DD became a couple. She had a reputation as a deadly powerhouse, working first for Russia, then for the Avengers, then for SHIELD. Everyone knew she was a formidable solo operative, but once she was with DD, her image evolved to being "Daredevil's sidekick," and she still resents that.
Matt's thought balloons have him acknowledging that this is a serious issue that needs to be addressed, but for whatever reason his actions demonstrate the exact opposite. He basically ignores her, and changes the subject to the party -- and, as noted earlier, even deceives her so that she'll go to a party where he knows she'll be uncomfortable. Wow, what a jerk. He also engages in some incredibly chauvinistic "horseplay" (Matt's term), which is written off as just a joke, but the timing of it makes it come off as incredibly garish. Matt is an incredible d-bag throughout the first part of this comic.

Does anyone have anything other than a kind of vague contempt for Tony Isabella anyway? In my head, he was always the writer whose name made me groan in disappointment the most when I saw his name on the credits of an issue.
