Inspired by the debut thread:

I've always felt that debut albums have an unfair advantage. The songs on a band's first album have usually been polished and selected on the road before the band gets signed. I think this tends to overstate the talent of the band, which leads to increased expectations, and the unfair "sophomore jinx". While I agree with most of the albums in the debut thread, I think it much rarer for a band to have a great second album. Some I can think of include:

Ride the Lightning - Metallica
Peace Sells - Megadeth
The Real Thing - Faith No More
Nevermind - Nirvana

What other albums do you think should be added?

Jason

NOT "Time and a Word" - Yes

Maybe we can have a best 3rd album thread?

I have to agree with Trower's "Bridge of Sighs" - I just listened to the remastered version yesterday and it sounded so right.

Renny,

James Taylor's Original Flying Machine album was recorded before his first album, but I was pretty sure it wasn't released until after Sweet Baby James. No?

Carole King released an album with her group The City before her first solo album, Writer. Still, Tapestry is her second solo album.
