Which is one of the reasons that Marvel was so much more appealing than DC when I was a child. The stories constantly referred you back to earlier issues, and you felt the stories were actually going somewhere. Then, at some point DC got super-serious about continuity which lead to Crisis on Alternate Earths, where they basically scrapped everything that came before and started over. Then, they did it again, And again...

It's not hard to see why I became a Marvel Zombie.

John B. Beach? B?

Well, what's life without differences?

Some continuity is important, but if we forget and make a mistake, we'll claim it was creative license and not laziness, of course. Today, anyway. Another day, we might claim something different since that's the way it goes. Dick.

The middle "B." is for "Beachy."

I couldn't help but notice the glaring continuity errors in this universe. Not only did they get our brother's middle initial wrong, they have us in the wrong state. At least the city name they chose is liquid-related, like Waterville.

Getting yelled at on the letters page by Mort Weisinger is a badge of honor. Very cool. At least he didn't call Beachy a "f**king r*tard" which was apparently one of his favorite epithets for Jim Shooter.

If Beachy had written that letter five years later, he would have gotten a dissertation from E. Nelson Bridwell explaining at length about the two different Atlantases and why one city's populace evolved tails while the other didn't.

Are you serious? They publish letters, not documented history. Different letters present different middle initials from people in different cities and states. If not, all letters would be monotonously alike. They try to be consistent in the keeping all the city names liquid-related. It isn't a liquid-related city name one month and then a solid-related city name the next. (Which means the cities are never in the "wrong state," by the way, despite what you have claimed ...) But if there weren't any glaring inconsistencies, everybody would soon lose interest.

You mean you all didn't live in South Carolina and then relocate to Minnesota? I thought the family just got tired of living through those hot Carolina summers.

Those summer days were all alike, and it was pretty monotonous. In Minnesota, the weather is constantly changing several times a day.

The only editor more vicious with his replies in LoCs was Kevin Dooley in the pages of the Justice League comics in the late 80s / early 90s.
