The best DC Comics stories of all time feature heroes such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and the rest of the Justice League, all of whom are about to return after being thought dead due to the events of the story Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths, which concludes in December 20's Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #7.

I've not been following anything comic related for a number of years now, and only back then because of conversations on here, but this paragraph - from Allen's link - is surely not serious is it?

Yes, they are morons, both for their poor grasp of English and their insipid choices for Best DC comics. The Sinestro Corps War? The Judas Contract? Really?

So… what do we think are the best? In general, my favorite DC Book was Detective Comics in the 1970s,
followed by Batman, but, admittedly, I haven't read a lot after that, almost nothing after Crisis on Infinite Earths,

Here are their top ten from 10-1, and my comments

10. Whatever Happened To the Man of Tomorrow?

A great story but I'm less enamored with it as i get older

9. The Return of Barry Allen

A nice story with a cool moment

8. The Judas Contract

Great story, One of my faves of all time.

7. Sinestro Corps War

Nonsense that it's on this list

6. The Dark Knight Returns

Great first two issues then goes downhill. Overrated

5. The New Frontier

Great stuff but not as perfect as many make it out to be

4. All-Star Superman

All hype, nothing worthy of being in the top ten here.

3. The Great Darkness Saga

Yes for me. Amazing story with cool build up and dramatic moments

2. Crisis On Infinite Earths

Strictly for Perez, writing and story vastly overrated

1. Kingdom Come

Same. Great art and design, inconsistent writing with some very cool written moments and others that were ehh. Superman saving the rail car in issue one was one of the best, if not the best, Superman to the rescue scenes. But the visions after diminished it

As for me, it's tough to make a list. So much of DC's stuff in the Silver and Golden Age, while very fun, I would not consider them all time great stories. In no particular order, here are some random ones (besides what I mentioned in the above list)

Return to Krypton, Kal-El falls in love with Lyla Lerrol

The First Ra's Al Ghoul story that was collected in the oversized treasury edition. Perhaps the best and most perfect Batman story ever done. It had it all, intrigue, a sane caring detective Batman, sexiness and amazing art.

For the Man Who Has Everything. Only issue was the demonizing of Jor-El.

Superman versus Muhammad Ali, with the best DC art perhaps ever. A silly idea that just worked

Superman versus the Amazing Spider-Man

Superman versus Shazam by the highly underrated Buckler on art. Only weakness was the lame excuse for Superman winning the fight.

(Almost) The World's Finest Team (Superman Adventures 25) Superman and Batgirl team up. So many great moments

"The Last Days of Superman!"

A fun one for me but maybe not an all time great is "The Showdown Between Luthor and Superman!", the first Planet Lexor story. Same with the story "The Luthor Nobody Knows!"

The Untold Tales of the Batman is still my favorite Batman origin.

Green Lantern: Rebirth. The best fox for a horrible idea. Only weakness was Batman's portrayal and the punch. Otherwise great stuff, great art and powerful dramatic moments "plenty of damn will"

The Joker's Five Way Revenge!

There is no hope in Crime Alley

"To Kill a Legend" by one of the greatest Batman Writers ever, Alan Brennert. Perfect ending too. Just outstanding

Image

"The Batman's Last Christmas!" one of my favorite Earth 2 related stories

Same with another Brennert classic The Brave and the Bold 182, interlude on Earth-2. So great!! So many touching moments, especially with Batwoman and Batman.

And the Earth 2 Batman story by him "The Autobiography of Bruce Wayne!" though continuity wise, all the earth 2 stuff was off

The Origin of Superman

Sorry for the long list, I got caught up in it. I'm sure there is more

That seems like a bit of an overstatement.

I don’t have any of those in my collection either, but I plan to add All-Star Superman eventually. I kinda regret parting with New Frontier, so that will probably find its way back, too.

I loved Judas Contract and Great Darkness Saga when they were first serialized.

I have all of these, either in original issues or collections. I like all of them and love some of them. I don't think any of them other than maybe New Frontier would make my personal top 10, but hey, that's okay. The only one I personally find to be immensely overrated (but still a seminal and important work) is The Dark Knight Returns.
