So-Lo

Description
After Oingo Boingo left A&M records, future film composer Danny Elfman's first release on MCA records was the album So-Lo. Widely considered to be the fourth Oingo Boingo album, all band members make contributions. So-Lo takes on an even more electronic sound than the previous Boingo album, and this time relies on drum machines through several songs. The single 'Gratitude' was included on the film soundtrack for the Eddie Murphy vehicle Beverly Hills Cop. While 'Gratitude' was to be the only single from the album, it was given a 12" single release including three unique mixes, all of which are included on the CD as bonus tracks. Also included are the single version of 'Gratitude' as well as the original mix, which was replaced on later LP pressings and all CD editions with a remix.

Tracklist
1. Gratitude
2. Cool City
3. Go Away
4. Sucker For Mystery
5. It Only Makes Me Laugh
6. The Last Time
7. Tough As Nails
8. Lightning
9. Everybody Needs
Bonus Tracks:
10. Gratitude (Original Version)
11. Gratitude (Extended Dance Version)
12. Gratitude (Single Version)
13. Gratitude (Tornado Version)
14. Gratitude (Short Version)

Boi-Ngo

Description
After the success of their 1985 album Dead Man's Party, Oingo Boingo return in 1987 with Boi-Ngo. Continuing their evolution from the frantic high energy of the early albums, Boi-Ngo emphasizes electronics and dance grooves. The first single 'Pain', released in late 1986, makes use of then-current technology with a stomping beat and sound samples. The single 'Not My Slave' originally dated from the Dead Man's Party sessions but wasn't used at the time. The song harkened back to the earlier sound of upbeat and catchy hooks. The final single 'We Close Our Eyes' is a straight-forward Alternative pop song. Boi-Ngo has been remastered from the original 1/2" analog master tapes and the CD includes several rare bonus tracks. 'Mama' is one of the many known album outtakes and was previously only available on a rare 7" box set of the album. Two remixes each of the singles 'Pain' and 'Not My Slave' make an appearance, as does a rare mix of their earlier hit single 'Weird Science', previously only available on a promotional 12" single.

Tracklist
1. Home Again
2. Where Do All My Friends Go
3. Elevator Man
4. New Generation
5. We Close Our Eyes
6. Not My Slave
7. My Life
8. Outrageous
9. Pain
Bonus Tracks:
10. Mama
11. Pain (Extended Dance Mix)
12. Not My Slave (Extended Remix)
13. Weird Science (Boingo Dance Version)
14. Pain (A Cappella Version)
15. Not My Slave (Club Dub Mix)

Dark At The End Of The Tunnel

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BNQTFJWZ/?tag=imwan-20

Description
The final album Oingo Boingo recorded for MCA Records was the 1990 release Dark At The End Of The Tunnel. With Danny Elfman becoming more involved in film scores, it had been three years since the last Oingo Boingo studio album. Dark At The End Of The Tunnel shows a maturing Elfman taking on more serious themes in the single 'Out Of Control'. Two other songs had already been released on film soundtracks, 'Flesh 'N Blood' was part of Ghostbusters II and 'Try To Believe' was included in Midnight Run. The signature Boingo horn section and various types of percussion remain across the album, whether it's the catchy 'Run Away (The Escape Song)', the delicate melody of 'Is This', or the more aggressive 'Glory Be'. Dark At The End Of The Tunnel has been remastered from the original 1/2" analog master tapes and the CD includes a number of mixes and alternate versions as bonus tracks.

Tracklist
1. When The Lights Go Out
2. Skin
3. Out Of Control
4. Glory Be
5. Long Breakdown
6. Flesh 'N Blood
7. Run Away (The Escape Song)
8. Dream Somehow
9. Is This
10. Right To Know
11. Try To Believe
Bonus Tracks:
12. Out Of Control (Funky Vocal Mix)
13. Flesh 'N Blood (Extended Version)
14. Try To Believe (Soundtrack Version)
15. Out Of Control (Power Mix)

I just wish there were more versions of "Gratitude."

You can never have too much Gratitude.
I love having all the different mixes. And with the addition of the "Boingo Dance Version" on Boi-Ngo" we are now up to four versions of "Weird Science" included on the Rubellan reissues. Overkill? I think not!

My main issue with these bonus tracks is that we're not getting remasters/official releases of the dozens of rare tracks out there. I want my Teenage Monster, my Louise, my Find You, my Can't Pretend, etc! Granted, I know it's not the fault of the Rubellan people, I think they just probably weren't given access to Elfman's archive of stuff ... Damn you, Elfman!

Check out Rubellan's remaster of Teenage Monster. Whoever the person is behind the Youtube account, he says that he was only able to refurbish this particular track because as a fluke he gained access to a high-quality instrumental track. And that this is just a one-time thing because ...

"The only thing stopping any sort of rarities package is Elfman's approval. I'm not going to pester him but myself and Universal tried last year, to no avail. Even Bartek brought it to the attention of management, but nothing happened. Regarding the songs you mention. Louise only exists at Universal on a multitrack, there is no recording of Forbidden Zone in the archive, and the only Cinderella recordings are from the Boi-Ngo and Alive sessions."

MFin' Elfman, man. I mean yeah, he's a genius, but ... lighten up and release the rarities, Francis.

And yeah, it would be great to get all the rarities, but Elfman's not going to allow it. Nothing Rubellan can do about it. He gets final approval.

If they're not willing to tie Elfman down and torture him until he finally relents, then why are they even in this business?

(Note: I'll still be buying all of these remasters. But I shall complain loudly as I do so.)
