This is a pleasant surprise--that an EOT box was to be announced in Memphis during Elvis Week was pretty much an open secret, but I was saving my $$$, anticipating that it would be a FTD release. Exactly four concerts and two rehearsals were recorded/filmed in March-April 1972, and only one of those shows has ever been officially released (twenty years ago, on the "Close Up" box.)
The question now is whether there is still going to be an expensive FTD box, and if so, what it might include. It's possible that the Legacy box will edit some of the audio and save it for an FTD set, but at least an hour or two (probably much more) of filmed outtakes have circulated via bootleg for years.
After this is released, most of the remaining unreleased live Elvis multitrack recordings are from 1977 shows, used for the posthumous "Elvis In Concert" album and TV special.

Amazon's listing page has temporarily gone away, but pre-orders that have already been made are still valid, and this release is still going to happen. Stay tuned, the listing page will return!

Okay, Amazon says that the box should be pre-orderable again tomorrow, with a new release date of December 2nd. Watch the links in the first post, and enjoy this sample in the meantime:

Chatter among the Presley faithful indicates that this will probably follow the "That's The Way It Is" template, in which Legacy released a box set comprising all of the live material, the movie (on two DVDs) and a bonus CD of rehearsal highlights. FTD later released a box set with all of the rehearsal material and two massive, 300-page books exhaustively detailing the concert material and rehearsal material respectively. Of course, these sets were released six years apart--the concerts in 2014 and the rehearsals in 2020. Apparently the only material edited out of the rehearsal audio was audio of acetate playback, long silences between songs, and instances "where Elvis is off mic'."
According to those familiar with the bootlegs, the full "Elvis On Tour" rehearsals from March 31 and 31st, 1972 run something like 3-plus hours, and cannot fit onto two discs. According to https://www.keithflynn.com/essential_li ... -1972.html, there was also a rehearsal on April 5th prior to a show in Buffalo which has been bootlegged, but is unreleased. Gospel material from the March rehearsals has been released on a couple of posthumous Presley gospel comps ("Amazing Grace" and "Peace In The Valley") "This Is Elvis" featured an overdubbed rehearsal performance of "Always On My Mind", as well as an overdubbed live performance of "An American Trilogy" which was later issued without the overdubs on the "Patriot" EP in 2001, and which, prior to the "Close Up" box in 2003, marked the only release of any live "Elvis On Tour" material.
FTD has released rehearsal audio on two titles, "6363 Sunset" and "Elvis On Tour - The Rehearsals". What's cool about these two 1972 rehearsals is that they were recorded in an actual studio--RCA Studio C in Hollywood, California--and mark the only time that Presley ever performed songs such as "See See Rider," "Proud Mary", "Johnny G. Good" at a studio session.
